Season 1 - Episode 3: Into the Coastwood

Re: Chapter 1 - The Farmer's Lost a Wife
Nivek says, "Sounds like camp is the plan. One of you boys (looking towards the humans) should take watch while there is still light about... then I will take on the duty when the full night is upon on. Since we will have no fire, we shall need the eyes of those of us who see well enough in the dark."
[assumes we pick suitable site] Nivek proceeds to get comfortable for some rest. "Wake me when it comes to my time" He pulls his cowl over his head to cover his eyes and begins a snore within moments.

Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

"I'll do watch," volunteered Hiker, "just tell me how to do it and I will do it real good, yep!"
Re: Chapter 1 - The Farmer's Lost a Wife
You find a suitable copse of trees to set-up camp less than a mile back from the edge of The Coastwood. It provides you with a fair amount of cover, yet still gives you a reasonable view of the surrounding countryside. Without the comfort of a fire, you tuck into your rations and bed-down for night with the intention of rising at first light to venture into the forest.
[Based on what you’ve said previously, can I assume the following as a watch rota: Tannen, Hiker, Nivek, Doughbert, Paladin, Karl?]
[Also, you should cross-off one day’s rations (6 left) and the associated encumbrance (2 pounds)]

Done! Two more days of eating and I'll be back to a light load!JoeCarr28 wrote:[Also, you should cross-off one day’s rations (6 left) and the associated encumbrance (2 pounds)]
No Smoke Without Fire
[Rolls]
Your choice of campsite proves to be a good one as you pass an undisturbed night save from your turns on watch. Rising at first light and gathering your belongings, you ready yourselves to enter the forest in pursuit of Alma and the goblins.
It’s only now that the flaw in your plan becomes apparent. Whilst yesterday evening the smoke emanating from within The Coastwood provided a reasonably clear way-point to head towards, the fire has since burnt out and you’re simply faced with an expanse of trees.
[What are you going to do? One option would be to head towards your best-guess as to where the smoke could be seen coming from yesterday, but there’s going to be an element of uncertainty in this that will only magnify once you get into the forest. Or will you take some other course of action?].

Re: Chapter 1 - The Farmer's Lost a Wife
Hiker woke up fist, he was refreshed, renewed and ready to see the new day. Hiker knew the mission was urgent, but he did not grasp the severity of things like the others might, he figured that Ms. Alma would be fine as long as they just went and got her. Hiker grabbed a piece of jerky from his bag then packed his things and meandered over to the dwarf Nivek - and like a child first awoken, he was chalk full of questions for the Dwarf.
"Wake up Mr. Dwarf, wake up ... the sun is up, we needs to go get Ms. Alma now from those woofs, right? Is she going to be OK ? ... I still don't know why them ugly things wanted her, I mean it doesn't seem to make no sense, do you know why'd they want her Mr. Dwarf sir? ...Should we go now, its important right?"

Re: Chapter 1 - The Farmer's Lost a Wife
Nivek scratches his chin and remarks, "I suppose we should've closed the distance afore we rested.? Let us do our best at heading in the right direction, trying to locate their trail. It is not as if they have been too covert thus far."
Looking towards the Hiker boy (nearly all humans are just boys to Dwarf eyes), "Hiker, do you think you might track them if you had one of our burglars with ya to assist?"
[Nivek will defer the decisions to others, as he is ill suited for ranger-esque endeavours.]

"Umm," Hiker thought about this for a moment, "...Sure!, them big woofs are leaving some mighty big step marks out there, I could prob'ly follow 'em. I done followed stuff many times before ya know," Hiker provided an explanation, "one time when ole' Melon got out the barn," Hiker provided no identity to what or who 'Ole Melon was, "I tracked him out along the edge of the farm and down into the edge of the woods there ... I just looked at where his feet had been and followed the step marks ... and there he was just standing in the woods there," Hiker smiled a huge toothy grin and added, "Mama got me some real good dessert that night!"
"Whats a burger-ler?" he asked innocently scratching his head.

Re: Chapter 1 - The Farmer's Lost a Wife
"Well, that's unfortunate." Tannen remarks upon awakening to the news that the smoke has dissipated overnight.
"Of course, it would be difficult to really follow if we were under the canopy of the trees anyway. I think we should enter the forest and head for our best guess of where the smoke was coming from.
Perhaps Paladin and Doughbert can climb a tree each half hour to see if the smoke has started after we enter the woods."
Tannen breaks his fast with some rations and water, all the while wondering what his parents are eating this morning way back in the comforts of his home city. After finishing the last of his food and water, he secures his gear to Jumbles, allowing the horse to graze on any grass that may be growing nearby. Tannen then dons his armor and ensures that his blades are keen using his whetstone.

Re: Chapter 1 - The Farmer's Lost a Wife
Doughbert heads over to Nivek and Hiker upon hear their conversation.
"Not sure if I qualify as a burgler but I am a priest of security and stealth." He glances at Hiker, " that means safety and quiet moving. Unless anyone objects I will scout ahead, with Hikers help I'm sure we can locater where they are or atleast where they were. We will see about making a trail for you to follow. Just give us a decent headstart. "
if noone objects they head out. Doughbert explains to @hiker in the simplest way he can a ouy Hiker staying back and moving up only to keep him insight. He also explains stop and come on up motions. He also explains that if he comes walking back he needs to talk to him. He also explains that if he should come running towards him he should wait until Doughbert passes him. If what Doughbert is running from can now be seen Hiker shoul decide fi he could defeat it on his own. If not he should run back to the group with Doughbert.
