Paladin realizes his problem: beer or bow? A moment of fevered thinking reveals the obvious answer! Paladin will drink the beer and then fire his bow! He'll chug the remainder off his beery beverage, belch to regain his equilibrium, toss the jug off the roof, apologize to those down below (Heads! Sorry! My bad!), draw his bow and look for something to shoot at.

Tannen drops his backback to the ground, and will then attempt to hurl his hand axe at the remaining wolf.

{Tannen's load without his backpack is light, so he should be able to get to movement rate of 20'}

Doughbert continues on, being careful and wary of anything/anyone trying to hide/attack/sneak past. He pulls one of his daggers prepared in case he needs to throw it or fight close.

Nivek is sure to bean one of these critters if any of them seem to make aggressive moves, and he will move to directly confront any of them in range that appears to attack anyone (including any present townspeople).

[OoC: Just waiting for someone to yell "roll for initiative!!" :D ]

Initiative
Scathias: 6 + 1 (dexterity) = 7.
Paladin: 3 + 2 (dexterity) + 1 (halfling) = 6.
Wolf 2: 4.
Doughbert: 1 + 1 (dexterity) + 1 (halfling) = 3.
Kemble: 2 + 1 (dexterity) = 3.
Nivek: 3.
Tannen: 1.
Wolf 1: Under the effects of Kemble’s Sleep spell.
Wolf 3: Under the effects of Kemble’s Sleep spell.

Scathias is again the first to react. However, he can’t get a clear shot at the only wolf left standing (Wolf 2) as Nivek is blocking his line of fire. As it looks like Nivek is going to engage the wolf in melee, he switches to his scimitar and advances. [Leather armour + lightly loaded gives a movement rate of 30’].

Paladin resolves his dilemma and spends the round downing his beer and discarding his jug. He’ll be ready to fire next round.

Wolf 2, seeing its packmates slump to the ground, considers its options. [Moral check: fail]. It halts its advance, turns as quickly as it is able, and begins to move away.

Doughbert continues to sneak forward, scanning for any hidden enemies. [Rolls]. He doesn’t see any.

Having sucessfully cast his sleep spell, Kemble advances cautiously behind the others whilst drawing a dagger.

The escaping Wolf 2 will comfortably outpace Nivek, so the dwarf moves towards sleeping Wolf 1. [Does he intend to slay it?]

Tannen sheds his backpack allowing him to move forward more freely. However, Wolf 2 is now around 30’ away, beyond the range of his hand axe.

Wolves 1 and 3 remain asleep. They will wake in 4 rounds time (40 seconds).

OoC: Since the remaining wolf seem to be fleeing, clearly I wont be able to close the distance on a fleeing wolf.

Nivek yells, "I will take care of these two! You archers get that other one!"

[Nivek intends to kill one (next to him), then move onto the next unless a more pressing danger presents itself.]

Tannen tucks the hand axe back into his belt and draws his longsword from is scabbard with a hiss. He keeps his shield at the ready and stays close to the unarmoured Kemble.

"Nice spell." he nods to the magic-user.

To the others he yells: "There may still be more out there, and maybe even some goblins too. Stay alert.

Nivek, do those wolves look like they have carried any riders tonight?"

{Lacking a bow, Tannen will stay close to the magic-user, ever wary of further attack}

[ooc: do any of the trees look like they would give Doughbert a better visual of the area? If they do he will climb one and scan from there. If not he will move froward and continue to scan.]

Poor doggie, laments Paladin as he shoots at the fleeing wolf 2.

Skirmish at the Wheatsheaf - Round 3

Initiative
Paladin: 3 + 2 (dexterity) + 1 (halfling) = 6.
Tannen: 6.
Nivek: 4.
Doughbert: 1 + 1 (dexterity) + 1 (halfling) = 3.
Kemble: 2 + 1 (dexterity) = 3.
Scathias: 2 + 1 (dexterity) = 3.
Wolf 2: 1.
Wolf 1: Under the effects of Kemble’s Sleep spell.
Wolf 3: Under the effects of Kemble’s Sleep spell.

From his vantage point on the roof of the stables, Paladin takes careful aim with his shortbow at the fleeing doggie. Wolf 2 is 110’ away, so long range. [To hit = 15 + 4 - 2 = 17. Hit! Damage = 2. I’ll assume that, as a hardened drinker, Paladin’s aim isn’t affected by the copious amounts of alcohol he’s consumed]. The arrow embeds itself in the hindquarters of the wolf, but doesn’t bring it down; it keeps on running.

Tannen, staying at Kemble’s side, stows his hand axe and draws his sword whilst scanning for further trouble. [Rolls]. Aside from the three wolves, he cannot see any other potential adversaries.

With his mace, Nivek bludgeons the sleeping Wolf 1 to death.

Doughbert assesses the potential advantage of climbing a nearby tree to get a better view. However, he decides that if there are any further enemies, they would most likely be hiding in the woods to the south-west (where the wolves emerged from) and that scaling a tree would be unlikely to help. He therefore continues to move forward cautiously.

Kemble, appreciative of Tannen’s protection, remains where he is, close to the fighter.

Scathias switches back to his short bow for a parting shot at Wolf 2. The distance is 75’ (medium range). [To hit = 11 + 2 = 13. Hit! Damage = 3]. Again the arrow hits, just to the left at Paladin’s. The wolf yelps, but continues it’s escape.

Breaking into a run, Wolf 2, disappears from sight into the trees to the south-west of the paddock.

Wolf 3 remains asleep. It will wake in 3 rounds time (30 seconds).
