Ravenstone sits upon the fertile delta region close to the mouth of a river and a bay. The city is surrounded on two sides by swamp to the North and to the East, huge tracts of forest. To the South, vast plains for farming and grazing.

The city itself is a melting pot of greed and corruption. Slavery is legal and a big moneymaker. The Urdish Empire is Ravenstone's biggest customer with a never ending demand for slaves.

The city declared itself free from Urdish rule at the fall of the Empire but still has strong ties to Novatia, the Urdish capitol. The city is divided into old and new, with the poor, alien, transients, shops, docks and warehouses in the old section. Within the new section are the merchants, bankers and nobles.

[still a work in progress]

The Irregulars of Ravenstone, eh? Vrak contemplates the offer and decides that travel and adventure is exactly what he needs right now. He makes his way to the Office of the Minister of Home Defense.

Rubbing at his eyes and wincing from the light above, the drunken sot Benn "Sable" does his best to focus on the flyer before him. It took several attempts before the overall gist of it was put into his head and as he stretches and groans he nods.

"Would be good to have a bunk to call me own. And reg'lar pay? Nothin' beats the clink of coin 'cepting beer." Steadying himself as a mild wave of nausea washes over him, the previous night's debauchery still lingering heavily on his edges, Benn forces down his stomach and nods. "Righty-dee, Office of Min'ster of Home Defense? Didn't I sell him some slaves a bit back? Or was that that red 'eaded fella? Oh well. Let's get goin' I guess."

Speaking more to his feet than really anyone about him, he turns and swaggers slightly before marching off down the street (only once leaning to the side to evacuate the contents of his stomach) and makes his way towards the office.

The first time Tam saw one of the flyers, he spat on the ground and muttered "Sounds just like the army...".

The second time, the bit about treasure made him stop, but then he shook his head and went on his way.

The third time, after another day spent unsuccessfully looking for work, he decided to at least have a look.

The buildings that house the administrative offices of Ravenstone are massive, worn and dirty. There is a small sign outside a plain, drab door,"Ministry of Home Defense".
As you enter the building you notice an old beat up desk in the middle of the room, occupied by the oldest woman you have ever seen. If she was not immortal, she should have been.

With a voice that reminds you either of a chain being drug across a metal grate or a suit of armor that has never been oiled, she asks."Can I help you?".

Tam stares at the crone in silence for a moment, stroking his beard.
Then he speaks, reluctantly, still unsure whether this is a good idea.
"There was a notice that you are offering employment.
Something about the Irregulars, I believe."
He lapses into silence again.

Noticing Tam speaking with the crone, Vrak adds glibly, "Your notice said "no questions asked"- wasn't that just a question?"

The old crone looks up with a withering stare, "We don't get many of you "adventurer types" in here. The recruiter will be with you shortly."

After what seems to be an eternity, a very stern looking man comes out of a door in the back, "You all want to apply as irregulars? come into my office..." as he steps back through the same door.
