Barros grins at Arkus's offer, then decides it would take too long to don his chain mail and opts to grab just his shield and sword for the time being.

Outside in the square, chaos reigns. It seems that a number of the merchants and vendors were already out preparing their stands and attractions. This was a fatal mistake for some of them. Various stands and booths have been overturned and smashed to pieces, and the bodies of several merchants lie among the destruction. A couple of the mercenaries that the companions saw the day before are also lying slain admist the debris.

Three more of the mercenaries, along with a cloaked figure that Phelan thinks she recognizes, are engaged in combat with eight foul, green-skinned humanoid creatures. These creatures are about the size of a dwarf, have twisted and bent faces, and an aura of malevolence about them. They wield either short, curved blades, or jagged spears. Seven more of them are looting through the wreckage. The bodies of a couple of these creatures can be seen near the combat.

Across the square, the doors of the church have been destroyed, and now lie in pieces on the ground. Shouts can be heard issuing from within. A strange humanoid with the head of a dog stands guard outside of the church entrance. It holds a pike at the ready.

Standing in the center of the square, busy smashing more booths into bits, is a huge creature. It stands easily ten feet tall, has dirty yellow skin reminiscent of the colour of vomit, and weilds a massive, spiked club. Two long tusks protrude from its mouth.

The sounds of various people panicking, fleeing, or rousing the rest of Epiceadale can be heard throughout the surrounding village. In the inn behind you, you can hear various goings-on. About the time that you reach the entrance to the inn, two more mercenaries come up beside you, weapons in hand. They look rather hesitant when they see the chaos. "Goblins" one of them says in a loud whisper "But they've got a giant from the hills!" the other one shouts, visibly shaken.

Cael also joins you. You see that he has his weapons in hand, but has not taken the time to don his chain mail.

Phelan runs to aid Pine and the other mercenaries that are fighting the eight goblins. She will take on the one she can get to first. She has her war hammer ready to strike as she runs.

"Giants and goblins, so much for the peaceful village!"

Arkus readies his sling and moves to a position well away from the giant and the melee.
If he can shoot at one of the goblins fighting the mercenaries without hitting the latter, he will do so.
Else, he will shoot at one of the looters.

OOC: Would it be possible to move along the outer edges of the square and get near the church without being attacked by the goblins or giant?

(OOC: @Kg: roll for initiative.

@Rhialto: Arkus thinks he can hit one of the goblins without hitting one of the mercenaries. If you wish to do so, roll to hit. Also, yes, it seems that it would be possible to move around the edge of the square without getting attacked)

Cael charges alongside Phelan to engage the goblins attacking Pine and the mercenaries. As they approach, they see the cloaked figure strike down another of the goblins. At the same time, one of the remaining mercenaries goes down under one of the goblin's blade, leaving the cloaked figure, two mercenaries, Cael, and Phelan fighting seven goblins.

Meanwhile, the seven goblins continue to loot the wreckage and corpses, while the giant continues to destroy things.

(OOC:

Initiative rolls:
Cloaked figure: 4
Mercenaries: 3
Goblins: 3
Cael: 1

The rest of you may roll for initiative at this point if you wish to engage in melee, or may take any other actions you wish to. I will wait for Hexamer to post before I post again)

Barros looks briefly at a scene before him that looks all to familiar. With his intense hatred of Goblins and their kind for past transgressions he charges out behind his friends heading into the fray. He will target the nearest foe he can engage.

OOC(Rolled a 5 for init @ http://www.brockjones.com/dieroller/dice.htm)

Arkus gets a clean shot on the goblin, and the creature drops to the ground, dead.

The other two mercenaries join the companions in their attack on the goblins.

(OOC:

We're going to go through the initiative sequence now. We will be using the same set of rolls for each round in the combat, so Rhialto, please roll for initiative for later rounds, even though you are done for this round. I'll add your roll to the sequence once you post it.

Initiative sequence:
Barros: 5
Cloaked figure: 4
Mercenaries: 3
Goblins: 3
Phelan: 2
Cael: 1

There are currently the companions, the cloaked figure, and four mercenaries fighting six goblins. There are seven more goblins looting the square, as well as the giant in the center of the square, and the dog-headed creature by the entrance to the church.

Hexamer, you go first. All of the nearby foes are goblins. Roll to hit, and damage if you hit).
