Holden seems to be the only one with any level of success, managing to find an older frail man claiming to be a former adventurer. He offers his services for the measly fee of 5gp. He appears quite frail but he says he is still able to get up, swing his mace and "smash an orc or two!" He goes by the name Ferindad and claims to be able to cast three "good and solid miracles before I am exhausted and need a nap. Oh, and I would need a jug of Ole Smiley's Best." He gives you a big toothless grin.

I say we hire him.

Agreed. Beggars can't be choosers.

Are we the beggars or him?

You accept the old man's offer and agree to head out at noon, giving you time to run any last minute errands.

At the appointed time you come to the common room and find Ferin, as he tells you he prefers to be called, waiting patiently with a frothy brew before him."My Betrud is waiting outside, and I'll be ready to go as soon as I finish this," he says with a smile. Then a big gulp.

The barkeep waves you over and extends his hand holding a small leather pouch. It is flat and obviously used for the safe transportation of documents. Whomever takes it realizes it has a little weight to it, and something small but bulky is inside.

"Your little friend came by this morning, said to give this to you, that you would know what to do with it," he shrugs his shoulders and returns to wiping off the counter.

[Woe]

"Thanks bub." says Sparka, taking the pouch. Once the barkeep departs, she'll comment, "I guess we should see what it holds." then open the pouch.

Kabam! Hopefully it isn't trapped. Though if it is, maybe I'll be able to reroll a cleric this time.

You open up the leather pouch and inside is a formal looking government type document (you skim the legalese enough to know that this document authorizes Master Dundarbury to have sole rights to explore and plunder Claim number 19950421-V and that he has then passed these rights down to all of you to act as his emissaries for this excavation.

Also inside is a round metallic object, about five inches in diameter and three inches thick, made of strong and sturdy iron. Pressed into the middle is a large capital B. A ring around the outer edge of the B is a copper strip with the statement "Authorized by the Lady of Bethmoora". On the flip side is a large number of runic etchings. Sparka, you immediately sense a strong feeling of magic emanating from the round device.

"Must be a key." observes Sparka. She puts it back into the pouch then finishes her honeyed tea. Once readied, she will get up to leave the tavern.
