After pausing briefly to copy the map Faylen sinks an iron spike halfway into the ground marking the location so she can check in on it later.
With the delay; Rowan has grown slightly impatient.
Alright, if everything is sorted then I suggest we get a move on. I think I'm beginning to look forward to going underground. Maybe I'm a closer relative to the Dwarves than I thought.

The rain finally abated as the party reached the point on the map where they were to leave the main road. There was, in fact, a moderately muddy trail leading off into the brush and scrub. The adventurers were obliged to go single file up the slope, which at first rose gently but soon became rather steep.
It was nearly noon, with the sun breaking through the clouds, when they reached the top. Though the grass was tall, there were only a few scrubby bushes on the hilltop; a space perhaps a hundred yards across, bordered on the far side by a sharp cliff-edge leading down more than a hundred feet to a rocky shoreline.
The ruined tower was little more than a ring of stones. Lesser stones were scattered around the outside, and partially filled the inside, the remainder of which was overgrown with weeds.
It did not appear that there was any way any goblins or kobolds could possible be issuing forth from the ruin.

Hengist once again took out his halberd, and stood guard over his dwarfish companion, as the little man moved towards the ring of stones, and investigated.
As the dwarf poked and prodded the ground, he produced a strange series of words, half-spoken, half-sung, some in common, others not, and many rhyming.
(OOC - Ranald is checking for traps, and trying to locate any underground areas, and muttering to himself in thieves cant while he does so).

Alphonse will be alert and look around to make sure nobody followed them.
During this time, Bothan will try to locate some signs of recent occupation in the surondings.

Sorry for the delay. Travel and a funeral has had me all tied up, but I'm back now.
Staying within sight of his companions, Rowan is going around the stones to check the cliff on the other side for any openings into the side. Faylen is cautiously entering the stone ring, and will begin searching for stairs or some other means of entry.

The others kept watch as Ranald, Bothan, and Faylen set about inspecting the ruins and Rowan checked over the side of the cliff. Ranald quickly discovered the buried opening to a descending staircase, and pointed it out to Bothan and Faylen; as they discussed what to do about it, Rowan called that he had spied a cave opening forty or so feet down the cliff.

Alphonse to the rest of the group : "I think exploring the cave first is more prudent. In the case something is inhabiting it, I would prefer that they don't follow us inside and block our escape route, if one is needed."

Said Ranald: Eh, yazzers, but how we going to get down in there, wot wot? Send the little man down a rope is it? While the rest of you fine gents are all safe up top? Oh, that's very nice.
No one is sending you down alone, Ranald, said Hengist wearily. If you rig up a rope, others will quickly follow you, myself included.
OOC - is the climb possible for ordinary characters? Are there bushes etc on the cliffside. And is there anything sturdy up top to tie a rope onto?
