Indeed, Tertullian adds, We best not bother our host. I shall go to him and speak with him. Tertullian goes over to the bartender, spends a few minuted talking with him and returns with a mug of ale. I sheepish look crosses his face as his companions look to him for information. I forgot what I was suppose to do...

"Here now, what do you lot want?" said the taverner, wiping his hands on a rag that didn't look all that clean.

Hello again sir. Tertullian begins, My companions and I are seeking any information you might have in regards to. .. umm... adventures or quests which might need completion. We are frightfully bored, and wish to undertake a mission. Any rumors or leads you could provide would greatly help us in this current state of monotony.

"Sorry for my friend Bothan yelling at you sir, he doesn't always understand exactly ow to behave with people. But keep in mind, a success on our part would eventually lead us to spend a lot on wine and meat in your inn. Have you heard of something ?"

Don't be alarmed, sir, says Hengist to the innkeeper. Many of us here are just wagon guards and mercenaries, headed up to Sabien looking for work there. But it's dull, and doesn't pay so good, and it's no fun at all in this weather.
Sometimes we get to thinking about big risk, and big reward, y'know? One big haul, to set ourselves up nice and easy for a while. You do hear stories about treasure hauls from the old days. But I'm sure if there was ever anything like that around here, it'd would have been taken out years ago. Ah, well. A man can dream.
Hengist finishes his soup and sits by the fire, wondering when the dwarf is ever going to come inside.

"Adventure," he replied. "Dunno about any adventure, but if you're looking for work that you can do with a sword and shield, you might think about the King's bounty. Twenty gold pieces for every goblin or kobold you slay along the Saviare Road. They've been raidin', they have, and the King is none too happy. And if ye knew anyone knowledgeable 'bout the area," he said with a sly wink, "well, that fella might tell ye where to look. If ye gave 'im a bit of incentive, you ken?"

Finished with their food Rowan and Faylen head over to join the conversation.
Why you seem like you're from around here. Would you happen to know of such a place?
But before Rowan can pull out his coin Faylen has cast charm person on the inn keeper.
No need Rowan. This honest man is kind enough that our friendship is all the incentive he needs

"Well, now, my good friend, let me tell you about the old tower. There's not much of it left... hardly one stone piled atop another. But it's up on the cliff overlooking the gulf, and rumor is there are dungeons beneath. It's a few miles up the road, thence off seaward through the woods and up the slope. Here, let me draw you a map..."
Taking a stub of sharpened charcoal in his greasy fingers, the taverner laid out his once-white rag and began drawing upon it. Though crude, Faylen considered it entirely serviceable.
As the others considered the map, Neirin, suddenly uneasy, looked around. Several of the locals were talking in hushed tones while glancing sidelong at their table; then he saw one man pointing toward them... more specifically, Neirin realized, toward the elf wizard. He began to get a bad feeling about the situation...

Hey, knife ears, Neirin says as he pulls on Faylen's robes and begins to back away behind the tall people I think you made some friends. He carefully slides out his sling and loads a bullet into it.
Tertullian - following the gaze of Neirin - sees the men looking at Faylen and whispers we should leave, quickly. before proclaiming loudly to the crowd while brandishing his holy symbol and staring the the menacing man:
You sir, I see the wickedness in your heart. The cruelty you harbor towards other living beings! May Praxis (The name of the Divine's physical avatar in times past) judge your thoughts. For is it not written: "Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice" and elsewhere does it not say "All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; But the Praxis weigheth the spirits." You sir, do you not plot evil? - repent of your wicked thoughts, less they mature into action leading to sin, the consequences of will be bitterness to the soul and hurt to the body. REPENT while there is still time! Weigh you thoughts, measure your intentions and see that they are not found wanting of righteousness. You sir, you thoughts are clear to me, revealed by the Divine! Let it be known to all that that which is hidden in darkest thought will be revealed by the light of Praxis! You are now before his truth. In vain will you try to deny or conceal the evil deeds you have done the mirror in which Praxis seems to read your past is your own memory, and also his judgment is your own. It is you yourself who pronounce your own judgment. This day truth has been revealed to you, and it is now your opportunity to respond to Praxis' call.

"He goes on a bit, this one" thought Hengist wryly. He had not much regard for priests.
He had not seen the elf's spell, and had no idea why the crowd at the Inn had suddenly turned menacing. Maybe it was just a natural dislike of elves?
But it did appear that the elf and the deserter had acquired some information from the innkeeper.
He left the Inn quietly, then ran to the back of the building to find the dwarf. It seemed the group would not be stopping here long.
