I'm saying you can fit 6, which means you have all 4 of you guys plus Elias, and Coroban (0-level) to do some rowing.

You row closer to the site and you can see the following -

A band of orcs (a dozen) have been trapped on a rockly ledge below a cliff. They look hopelessly out of place, like they are supposed to be in someone's Tolkien-style DandD campaign and have been teleported in here by accident. They are beinga swooped by the pterodactyls but are fighting them off with axes and javelins.

There is another figure at the very back of the rocky ledge who Coroban thinks could be a captive, the rest of you just saw a female orc. You'd have to go closer. The orcs have seen you but you are out of the range of their javelins so there isn't really much they can do. If you row in, you will probably have to endure a round or so of missile fire before you can get the boat in close enough to land. You are about 240 feet away right now. (I'm using feet, not yards, for this encounter).

YC will try to speak with the pterodactyls.

What are you doing with these orcs?

The big monk calls out to the winged creatures, several of whom respond by flapping over the water to peer at the occupants of the rowboat.

"Eat! Eat! Eat!" is their response.

(Speaking with animals doesn't make them more intelligent).

From what you can see, their attempt to attack the orcs is not going well. Several of the dinosaurs lie on the ledge with broken wings. The orcs are repelling them fairly easily.

YC will stand in the longboat and wave his arms.

"Danger! Go!", he says to the pterodactyls.

OOC: Has Rostam ever met orcs? Does he know what they are? If yes, does he consider them irredeemebly evil?

There isn't any real equivalent of the 'orc' in Persian folklore or any other Asian folklore. So the creatures are probably unknown to Rostam and the others. However they certainly don't look very nice. They remind the Kona magic-user of 'Oni', or ogres.

A few of the pterodactyls fly over in the direction of the longboat. They hover over the boat uncertainly. YC tells them to flee, but they do not. They may begin attacking you instead!

Meanwhile the other pterodactyls veer away from the orcs after a few losses, and wheel above the cliff.

What do you all do?

To the party:
Strange creatures. Have you seen their like before? They look bestial, but I would not judge them on their looks alone. Let us try to talk.

Shouting to the orcs (in Sea Trade, with thick Persian accent):
Ho! We come in peace! Do you need help?

They are strange to me also. Let us offer food and water to them and see what we can see by their response.

Maju keeps quiet, and he's certainly no aid in rowing. However, if the party gets within 60' of the orcs, he will cast ESP to see what they're thinking (that is if they speak a language that he can understand).

Well, that's 3/4. I take it that you row towards the orcs, offering food (do you have any?) and trying to engage with them peacefully.

The pterodactyls do not attack you. The orcs, likewise, do not attack, but look at you in confusion. You can now see they have a captive, and it isn't an orc. It's another mermaid just like the one you saw to the north. Shes tied up at the back of the rocky ledge.

ESP is successful, but unfortunately the language the orcs are thinking is not one you know. All Maju can get from them is a sense of confusion and terror.

You are now within about 60 feet and trying to hail the orcs but they do not understand a word you say. They have javelins drawn and may attack if you go closer. Also it may be tricky trying to get the boat right in, as the waves are strong against the rocky ledge.

What now?
