Chapter 3: A Dangerous Detour

Maju holds out his hand and launches two magic missiles at the bear.

Noted - - the coils of energy leap forth at the bear and take it onto 27 hp down.

Meanwhile Kyo, who had been loosely tied, breaks her bonds with ease and charges off into the forest to get away from the noise.

NEW ROUND - (Round 3)

The 6 warriors all attack - and they ALL miss. Three of them miss hopelessly, and get tangled in with each other.

The bear is poised to strike at the end of the round. What does Maju do? Attack the bear again, or chase Kyo? Or, just hang out,combing his beard?

You said that we're in a clearing. Is the clearing small enough that Maju could cast Web to ensnare the bear? If so, that's what I would like Maju to do.

You could get the bear. You'd probably get a few of the warriors as well. They have surrounded it. Also, it looks bloody strong.

I don't have much else in the way of options. Maju will cast Web on the bear, trying to avoid as many of the warriors as possible.

Unfortunately you do not do very well at this attempt and the web affects 5 of the 6 warriors as well as the bear.


NEW ROUND:
3 out of 5 of the warriors succeed their saves and move back out of the affected area.

The bear also succeeds his save quite easily and moves out of the area.

2 warriors get to try saves again next round. Both are STR 13.

It's Maju's go again. He's really pumping spells at this thing but not to much avail, so far. The combat is going to start up again next round in a new location, after everyone has gotten free of the mass of webs.

What does he do?

Not knowing what else to do, Maju pulls out two days worth of rations and throws them at the bear in hopes that it will decide to eat the food instead of him long enough for the warriors to finish it. If he has time, he also wants to retrieve his darkstone.

Maju also resolves to learn some different, more useful spells in this dangerous place.

Web is an excellent spell for lower level humans etc, but for large prehistoric creatures with many HD they are going to get out pretty fast.

New round - the 4 remaining warriors round on the bear and do it a further 15 hp damage, killing it....

Except that bears can keep fighting while on negative hit points. So instead, it attacks, ignoring the thrown food, and completely rips one of the other warriors to shreds. He is dead as dead can be.

The 2 other guys both fail to get out of the web.

New round The bear is still fighting!

You all win initiative. There are 3 warriors left on the bear now. If you pull out the darkness stone you will all be plunged into darkness - and you will not be able to see either. Is that what you want?

At this point, seeing the state of the bear's injuries, Maju decides that it isn't long for this world and he just needs to delay it for a short time. So he immediately puts away the lightstone he retrieved earlier (or at least covers it in his hand), and then retrieves his darkstone, holding it up such that the darkness envelops as many of the warriors as possible (and himself, of course).

OK...

so the three remaining warriors are at a -4 to hit penalty, which causes them to miss, badly.

The bear's final act in this life is to grab another skull warrior in the darkness and crush the man to death.

The darkness idea was good but the bear rolled quite well, alas.

It is now dead so the rest of you may continue!

The following morning it is DAY 12, 6am. Teruk sends 3 more men to check on Maju and they discoverer the gory truth. Funerals are had. No one loses any food. Everyone gets a hit point.

Tell me about this plan with the rope and the shipwreck...
