Maju - when you get upstairs, the natives remind you that there was a tunnel, visible off the big pond of water in which the injured went swimming. That's the only sign of another entrance into any underground complex below the ruins - that anyone has yet seen.

Jaali beings searching the room and finds no secret doors yet, although he could spend a few more turns to be sure.

Yuan-Cheng examined the new door. It is slightly smaller then the first door but also very heavy stone and with no handle.

The monk thinks there is another pressure plate on the floor just in front of the door, on this side. He hasn't stood on it yet. Jaali could confirm if it is another trap mechanism.

I'm saying that Saracen exists with the magic user to give his familar break. Kanya and Apinya are still down below, examining the door.

Jaali would like to search for secret doors for another turn, and then look for trap on the pressure plate.

Maju remarks, "That's correct. Thank you; I'd forgotten about that." He then calls down the stairs, "There is a tunnel up here off the underground well. Do any of you want to accompany me through it to see if it may lead to the other side?"

Kanya and Apinya search on the first side (with no obvious pressure plate) and find nothing. As Maju has said, it's apparent that the mechanism which spring the trap must reset after some time, but you do not know how long that is.

Jaali discerns that there are no secret doors in the trapped room, and then moves over to the southern door and confirms what the monk has spotted. There is indeed another pressure plate on the inside of the southern door.

It looks like this room has been rigged up to trap inside anyone who walks in here, from either direction.

"Mage, we will go down below with you," says Teruk, and gathers some decent fighters. "But not that that wretch."

Saracen knows he is being spoken about, and is getting a bit sick of the dark looks from the villagers. He moves away from the well and the entrance a bit, and sends his own falcon on a mission of exploration around the ruins and to the north, to assess the state of the pirate camp on the beach.

How far away are we from the ship?

Kanya will come back up with the others and look around for something that can be used to bash the door down, like a fallen stone column.

The ship is probably only 3 or 4 miles north on the coast.

Kanya, your luck is OK. You do actually find a pretty heavy concrete beam that has fallen off one off the side of one of the cubes. It's gonna take 4 people to carry it, but it may make an effective battering ram once you get it in to the monkey lab. Getting it down the stairs could take a while though...

Anyone else got any plans?

Maju welcomes the help of Treuk and his men. He looks at Saracen and says, "You've figured out that they don't trust you. So maybe it's best that you help Kanya batter the door down…if that's even possible."

With Teruk and his men, Maju then resolves to set off to the tunnel opening. But before he goes, he decides to have a look at the scroll they found below. Worried that it might do him more harm than good, but feeling better about investigating it here on the surface, he takes a breath and opens it...

OOC: A couple things -
1. Maju would like to attempt to get a sense of the 'lay of the land' to see if this tunnel could possibly lead to the other side of the trap room.
2. At earliest overnight opportunity, Maju would like to learn Read Language and Read Magic in order to decipher the book. So Longman, please let me know when it's time to reassign spells.

Day 14 has been pretty eventful. It's gone over 16 pages and it's still only about 9am. It began when you cast Speak With Dead on the girl and the sword tried to stop you - and then you advanced on the nearby temple complex, that you have now been exploring for a couple of hours.

So, you'd have to wait until tomorrow morning before learning any new spells, Maju. As to your OOC question, my reading of Core Rules is that while Read Magic can be learned without a spell-book, it must still be learned, and thus must still occupy one of your slots. Is that what you were asking?

Saracen rejects the idea of helping to lug around a concrete beam, and continues to keep an eye on his eagle, Altair. You (Maju) can instruct a villager to assist in that task and they will do so. That means Kanya, Apinya and a villager are now lugging a beam around and trying to work out how to get it down the stairs.

As for your own geographical investigations, you can't really work out how the layout of the underground areas would fit together. The hall of apes runs due north from the trapdoor, which does point roughly towards the underground pool, but you are not sure exactly if it will join up or not.

The scroll - it looks like it contains three separate entries, and you are quite certain they are magical - and not the clerical kind. You recognize a few symbols similar to your own way of writing magic, others are totally different. So in short, it's a Magic User scroll with three spells, medium level in power, and Read Magic will tell you what they are.

Do you now descend into the pool? What are others doing?
