"Do you also have a plan on how to avoid stumbling around in the dark, then?"

Loving the role-play but not getting a definitive call either way.

Maju explains what is being said to Teruk, who looks puzzled, and says:

Why do you need to sneak about like this? Just go and kill the ogres with your fire demon! The men with them will flee in terror as soon as they see it.

Maju finally admits that he can't just summon the Efreet every time he feels like it, and the Prince of Sulan looks disappointed.

Oh. Well in that case, I suggest the sneaky ones among you approach the village during the day and fire upon these creatures with your fire sticks and magical missiles. Four of my sneakiest men can help with spears and bolas. Once the ogres are dealt with, we will all charge from outside the village. As soon as the village is retaken, then we attack the temple.

Teruk seems pretty gung ho about this. You realize he probably doesn't mind if a few people die. His men, or yours.

Maju asks Teruk, "In your experience, do the ogres seem to be acting on their own accord? Or do you think the wizard has them under some sort of spell?"

OOC: My question here is to determine whether a Dispel Magic might be able to break one of the ogres from being charmed (if that's what's going on). That might be an easy way to eliminate half the threat. If the villagers don't know, Maju could use Detect Magic on the ogres to try to tell if they're charmed. Either way, it might be time for Maju to try the Charm Monster scroll on one of them once it's known that they aren't charmed - especially if they speak Common... :)

Teruk replies:

The ogres are strange. We do not know where they are from, and they do not speak our language, or yours, as far as we know. They have white skin, and some say they are descended from the wizards of old. We do not even know where they come from. I do not know if the witch-doctor has a charm on them, or if they follow him willingly. But they are evil creatures in any case, so even if he did not have them in thrall, there would be little chance of dealing with them.

The DM is waiting for you to make a concrete plan. If there's nothing definite within a few days I'll move you on somehow.

"I agree with Teluk. We'll fight better when we can see the enemy. Maybe we can draw some of the ogres out into an ambush..." Kanya sees Teluk about to interrupt, and continues quickly. "... and then charge in and clean up the rest of the village. Once the ogres fall, the rest of the village should fall quickly.

"Teluk, can you draw us a map of the village here in the sand and then post it in the Maps folder?"

Does Hold Person work on ogres? The book says that it won't work on creatures "larger than ogres" which makes me think it'd be effective. i Kanya's current plan involves using it.

Maju has never cast that spell on ogres. In fact, he has never met any, although they did exist in his homeland.

As for Kanya, she has indeed cast the spell on some ogres, one time in India. It worked a treat. Anyone within 180' of the caster is fair game.

The creatures described by Teruk are about 9 feet tall, or a man and a half, as he calls it. He listens to your descriptions of ogres with interest.

'These aren't like what you are describing,' he says. 'They are more like normal men, but larger.'

Nonetheless there is no reason to think that the spell would not work effectively on them. They are not too large for it.

Map of village coming soon.

"Excellent." says Kanya, with malice dripping off of every syllable.

Dang! I should have bought a sacrificial dagger as part of the money sink.

"That seems like a fine plan. Should Jaali and I lure the ogres here?"

Teruk advises otherwise.

The attacks must be swift and we must try to prevent anyone from escaping to warn Ishakt. If we lure the ogres to us, some of the men with them will surely run and tell him. And then my father may be killed, for our disobedience.

(I have a wedding to go to right now. Map to come later today. Hope you guys are having fun with this. Thanks for hanging in there.)
