I'm going to say that Maju sent the bird out early in the morning of day 2 - meaning, the day after you arrived on the beach. You would have had a high tide by then.

On the way there, the bird was attacked by some rather nasty looking-creatures that resemble a combination of giant bats and oversized mosquitoes. She manages to avoid the creatures because she is considerably faster in the air, but she flies straight back to you and doesn't get a good look at what is going on down on the beach. All she can tell you is:

"Ship still there! In the water on the rocks! Kree! But bat creatures attack poor Taku! Fly up from jungle! Evil! Yuck!
!"

That was yesterday morning! If you want to send either of the familiars out again during day 3, let me know.

You break camp on the morning of the 3rd day and move up the mountain. Much against the odds, you have no encounters again that day either! This is a run of good luck that I am sure will rectify itself sooner or later...

You reach the top of the mountain in safety and can make camp with a spectacular view. Lose another day's food.

The island you are on turns out to be enormous...I'll post a map update later.

You can all have 400 exp for gaining your first basic objective plus another 150 each for 3 days exploration plus 40 for the dinosaur. 590 all up.

Maju strokes the falcon across her crest, whispering, "You've done well, and you were right to flee when you were attacked. We will know to avoid those horrid flying creatures. Now rest well…" She cooed as he tucked her snugly in the front of his cloak, covering her to keep her safe and sound.

Considering the map
Looking about the portion of island that they could see, Maju says to the others, "The ruin to our northwest intrigues me. It seems that the surrounding desert is unnatural. Something is amiss here, perhaps of the arcane, and it deserves investigation. In any case, exploring that location will keep us closer to the ship, just in case they get it seaworthy again. I suggest we journey there."

Yuan-Cheng nods at Maju's plan.

"That may be dangerous, but it looks like we won't be safe anywhere on this island. So if we can at least get a little richer..."

Jaali is ready to go to the ruins.

"I'd rather stay in the jungle not the desert. We don't have the water rations for it, we'll need to travel at night, we're going to be exposed out in the open. We're doing well enough living off the land here, and not digging into our rations. Why would we go to the ruins? Because it's dangerous and there might be riches?

Better to get up above the canopy, see what's around, and try to find out what the other inhabitants of this island are doing.
"

I can provide water rations for us all, and there is still plenty of meat left from that creature. Here seems to be a pretty safe spot however, maybe we should set up some kind of camp here? It will save us from having to return to the ship when we need things, and it would be a good place to stash any valubles we may find, away from all the other pirates. Whom, having sailed with, I would trust around treasure, especially our treasure, not even as far as I could throw them.

Other than that I cast my vote for the ruins, we'll travel faster through the desert as well, just need to widen the base of our shoes.

"I do not trust pirates. Any of them."

"The hope of riches long forgotten is enough for me to take the risk of getting to that temple. I didn't choose the adventurer's life to die poor !"

"Agreed. We need to watch our backs."

Maybe the reason why people are mistrustful of Saracen is that he sits around at night re-learning his spells, and you can all see bits of lightning coming out of his fingers while he does that...

The night passes uneventfully. It's also much cooler up here, and peaceful, there are less mosquitoes, and no dinosaur tracks. If you wanted to set up a long-term camp somewhere, a mountain would be a pretty good bet.

Day 4, 6am. Have you decided what to do? I'm liking all the role-play stuff here but it seems as though there is no formal decision yet. I'll leave it a while and then assume you are going to the desert ruins...
