Darkest Before the Dawn...

I'll wrap this up and move on. You are now all asleep. Somme consensus has been reached that you are staying in the jungle and going to the village tomorrow, to help Teruk rescue his father and deal with the threat that is troubling them.
Very late at night, it is Sonja's watch. And something rather nasty happens. This character has a strong hatred of pirates and have never liked the presence of Saracen, the pirate escort. While he lies sleeping, she and her war-dog Jericho both approach him suddenly, and with murderous intent.
Saracen, you take only 7 hit points of damage in the first instance, largely because your banded mail protects you. (Yep, I decided you were sleeping in it). Then, you lose the initiative as you are waking up, and are attacked again immediately. You take another 10 hit points and the wardog now has a hold of you and isn't letting go til you make a save vs Death Ray.
EDIT: You have taken 25 hit points in total. You take 8 earlier from the spear. You have 6 left. I remind you that as soon as you reach 0 hit points you are dead. This is hard core rules, no optional death rules given.
Saracen, it is now your action. Your bird is not present, as you sent if off to view the beach many hours ago and were expecting it to reunite with you in the desert. You still have all your regular 2nd level spells, but I count you have cast 3 of your 4 magic missile spells today, and haven't quite had enough sleep to have relearned for tomorrow. You are still lying down, and there is a very large and vicious wardog on you...
You can try to cast, or you can shake the dog off. That's pretty much it. You can't really move or do much else until the dog is off you.
(During the first of these rounds, everyone else woke up. During the 2nd round, everyone else got up and worked out what was happening.
When Saracen is finished with round 2, we can go to round 3 with initiative. I'll give him a day or so.)
