There are some things you can do to keep the meat longer, even in warm weather: quarter the animal, gut the animal, skin the animal, etc. Anything that gets the heat out and the meat staying cooler is good. And yes, we wouldn't want to carry out the full animal if anyone else goes for it. But the group doesn't seem very altruistic.

I think I would prefer a more realistic approach, as we are on a lost island. By that I mean using rations the days we can't get to kill something edible.

Can we ret–con that Maju didn't use Haste today, seeing as the others in the group decided to just kill the alpha anyway? May say that he saw them kill it as he was preparing the spell, so he didn't need to cast it after all?

we might as well rest now, its easier to rest after each encounter.

No retconning Maju's spell, sorry. He cast that fair and square and it did slow up the other creatures to the point where I didn't even bother rolling to see if they escaped.

As to the rations - still no consensus so I think I will leave that one open.

Okay - I don't mind as long as it did some good for us. It just didn't seem to matter at the time.

I'm good counting rations. Are you ok if the ranger (and halfling?) are good at preparing fresh meat, herbing plants, and otherwise living off the land?

Sometimes it's hard to play low Charisma. I'm thinking Yuan-Cheng's gone a bit nutty because of this talking sword.

I've always found it easier than role-playing high wisdom.
