How does IF compare with SW?

Just curious how IF compares versus Swords and Wizardry, the other major OD&D clone. I know SW uses both descending and ascending AC, but I'm not terribly familiar with it otherwise.

Plus SW makes great root beer. Or is that A&W?

Just curious, and wishing Solo best of luck with Iron Falcon.

And can I add that IF is a nice looking book. VERY good work Solo (but you knew that). It takes OD&D and packages it in one book. I also like the campaign checklist in the back.

Swords & Wizardry varies in a lot of details. The main one is that S&W uses a single saving throw mechanic, rather than the traditional five groups. I haven't done a detailed comparison otherwise.

Materials written for either should adapt to the other pretty easily.

Thanks Solo, and as I said, best of luck on IF.

I agree that all the old school stuff is mostly compatible. I ran on Thursday and was converting a B/X module on the fly to BFRPG. Just switched the AC to ascending, used the hit dice as the "to hit" bonus, no problem.
