In a way that would be similar to the game Holmes was trying to introduce new players to with his Basic Set, or the as-yet unpublished simulacrum BLUEHOLME™ Compleat Rules. Of course, Holmes also added a lot of his own interpretations, intentionally or just because of his reading of the original rules, not to mention the oddities that were grafted on by the TSR editors at the same time that AD&D was first being written.
