Chapter One: The Star and the Sylvan Sea

Ah Aerth. In merry ol' Angland, King Ithwyrd lies old and feeble on his bed in Lyndon-Upon-Tems. Despite this all is well. The succession is assured and the land prospers. But something is coming that has not been seen since before the fall of the last dragon for it is... the season of the mist.

Captain Galway listens carefully to the short conversation as everyone eats. After the desert has been served and eaten he lifts his wine glass and leans back in his chair appraising his guests. Finally he seems to reach some sort of decision.

"It seems that none of you have any immediate duties or plans, I happen to know that it will be a couple of weeks 'til his Lordship is ready to leave for Abertawe, so I wonder if the lot of you would be interested in delivering an item for me when we reach Caerton. I can pay you quite handsomely and the job is relatively easy though perhaps a bit...dangerous. What do you think?"

He surveys the guests at his table as he takes a drink from his glass.

"Me and my comrades will be glad to accept the task, captain !"

Joscelin then look around the table, realizing his reaction was too spontaneous, hoping that he didn't create an awkward situation. He then look back to the captain :

"How much gold are you offering ?"

Ah...I think my sergeant and myself would need to know a bit more about both the item, and the person it is to be delivered to, Captain. We are not averse to the idea, we simply need more information. And of course, we will have other duties to attend to, when we finally get to the northern city.

After realizing that he spoke too quickly, and without the consent of the others at the table, Joscelin stare down and blush, embarassed.

"Agreed." says Elizabeth with a nod to William. "We are neither couriers nor fencemen and want naught to do with lawbreaking."

"I have no fixed plans actually. I'll be happy to go with Sir Joscelin on this little errand of yours, Captain."

Alrone ,who has been suspiciously vacant (as in dreamy) during the conversation, speaks up. "Well captain I my self am not in the escorting business but I would be happy to tag along with a group of capable allies." I turn to Joscelin and reassure him "Don't worry I've seen these sort of situations pop up before. Most of the time everyone accepts any invitation for work" He gives a hearty laugh.

Captain Galway appears to reconsider as he listens to your responses and says, "Well, perhaps not after all. It is not illegal, mind you, nor even immoral. Just a message that needed delivering but I had a mind to make this stop in Caerton as short as possible and did not want to have to send out a crewman and wait for him to return. As for payment...well it wasn't going to be all that much but handsome given the job. Well. No matter. I can, perhaps, find someone once we reach port."

Elizabeth finds the answers puzzling, almost suspicious. Handsomely paid yet not all that much... a bit dangerous yet an errand for a crewman... his responses aren't in agreement. Her guard instincts taking over, she asks, "Captain, where do you sail after Caerton?"

"I'll do it, alone if needed, I am a man who keeps his words. Please give us more information, captain."
