Chapter One: The Star and the Sylvan Sea

Ah Aerth. In merry ol' Angland, King Ithwyrd lies old and feeble on his bed in Lyndon-Upon-Tems. Despite this all is well. The succession is assured and the land prospers. But something is coming that has not been seen since before the fall of the last dragon for it is... the season of the mist.

Arlone looks at the girl. He asked in a soft voice "what is your name my young lady? It would be improper if your escorts did not know you name"

(OOC: Captain said just a little earlier in the conversation that you would arrive mid-morning tomorrow game time)

'And where is it that you need to go, miss Shaha?' says William.

It's pretty obvious that FORCES are looking to get hold of this girl, otherwise the job would not be dangerous. William takes Elizabeth aside if he can find a moment, and discusses the best way of figuring out what those FORCES might be.

We could ask her outright but that kind of directness made the captain jumpy, last time.

Edward says, "I will travel with you anywhere you wish to go." then he remains silent.

"A most charming cargo indeed" says Kynndelic with a small bow.
"Please, tell us lady Shaha, where are we to escort you... and what are the perils."

Shaha looks at them all taking in their questions and says, "We go to Caerton and, in a sense, never leave it but when we have arrived finally where I must go we will have been to much of the world. This is a great secret and bound up in that secret is a story of which I will now tell you a small part."

Shaha looks into the distance for a moment gathering her thoughts and then begins. "Long ago before even the Elves woke to walk their forests Aerth was already old. All the kindreds living today are but the youngest of Aeiou's children. Ages before, the Second Born walked and played and loved on the face of Aerth."

"They were four peoples: The Elenyi, fair with eyes the color of the sky and hair the color of wheat. Theirs was the freshness and energy of the Spring and the power of the Mind. There were the Ysali, golden with emerald green eyes and flame colored hair. Theirs was the enthusiasm and strength of Summer and their power was of the will. Then there were the Borzoni, the people of the autumn, whose skin was olive brown with rich brown hair and amber eyes and had the power of the heart. The Sothuri, the winter people, pale with silver eyes and hair the color of midnight. Theirs was power over the body and great was their might. Aeiou patterned them after the seasons of the world or, I should say, they were the embodiment of that part of the Pattern."

"Yet before these peoples were the First Born of Aeiou's children. They were the Selendemir. The two races that were one. In the Pattern they embodied the Day and the Night, the Moon and the Sun. The men of that first race were gold of hair and eye while the women were silver. They were the first race to live on Aerth after the coming of the plants and the animals."

"These are things that have been known to only a very few. I will now tell you of things unknown to any in this Age."

"Before Ae was cast down he made in secret a race to call his own. A race that could live on the barren face of Aerth because they walked between...in the spaces of the Pattern. They were the Fweth. Shadow creatures living in the dark cold of their blue lit cities. Theirs is strength like burning ice and the swiftness of sudden night. Ae created them in despite of Aeiou and the Pattern and in so doing tore himself from it. He seeks, even now, by means of his Mist to return Aerth to the way it was in the time when his children alone walked it's face."

"The Mist stills all that draws breath or grows from the earth in undeath. Like stone they become and yet do not die but are aware of all that passes while unable to move even the slightest fraction of an inch. They Mist also wakes Ae's servants that have been slumbering for long years. The dragons."

"The dragons are those that followed Ae into exile. He rewarded their loyalty by forcing them into shapes that limited their powers. They hate yet fear him now and can never be free. Such is their payment for rebellion."

"So I go to Caerton now to begin the task of ridding Aerth of this Mist."

Elizabeth starts to wonder whether she's armed well enough for shadow creatures and undeath. "How can we help with this?"

"I have no might in battle nor magics at my command. While the enemies of the Pattern were once strong they are now still just waking and beginning to regain their strength. I must go to destroy the source of the Mist but I need your skills to get me there so that I may do what I must. So you all will be the shield I need and my sword and my magic."

Edward's eye are bright with devotion. "I am for you, Shaha. What little I can do, I will do, for you. Are we to go into the Mist? Do you have any powers that will allow us to survive their?"
