You all walk into the tavern and take a seat nearest to the fire. The scantily clad waiter slinks up and asks, "What can I get ya tonight?"

*ROLL FOR INITIATIVE*

Actually the only good city / intrigue game I have played was kinda like that (except without the Initiatve  ). We just divided the time up unto agreed units - 2 hours, 6 hours, 10 minutes, whatever - and then we went round the table.

Just saying all this because Mint appears to be unhappy with the game and I think that approach could fix it.

I'm happy, but I'm trying to warm up a hot but cold angel while keeping all you lecherous people about.

Here is the problem with roleplaying so far. Nothing we have roleplayed changed the outcome of the story at all. No matter what we did on the ship we were going to end up with Shaha in our group and headed into the city (with the exception of something extreme like attacking the crew and taking over the ship :). Now I assume their might have been a difference in what happened to us depending on which path we took through the city, but since our clue and our potential ally are both up in or near Uptown then that where we were going to end up. And as far as I can tell there wasn't much chance of altering what was going to take place in our encounter with the brigands.

But thats ok, Edward will keep moving along doing routine things until something else needs to be done.

I had said that the purpose of the ride on the ship was to set the stage and give you all an opportunity to roleplay getting together as well as introducing Shaha and the other girls you saw. I guess I was hoping that you would do that on your own but it didn't pan out. Water under the bridge though.

Plus I also remember saying that I was worried that you all would think the early part was a railroad but you all came back and assured me otherwise. Now I'm hearing what sounds like a complaint that you were being railroaded since, as you said, you had no choice. So I'm a bit confused and bit worried about how to proceed.

I have another campaign in mind but I don't think you all will go for a change like that so I'm sort of running out of options here. By it's nature this campaign was designed from the outset to be complex and with a lot of subplots and characters doing things in the background and trying to change this campaign to be more straightforward is going to be like, well, gathering up mist.

My only complaint is all the complaining. No concerns about railroads or shipping lanes or anything really. I'm fine. :)

I have no problem with how things were on the ship. I role played and interacted with the encounters I had. And I am still fine with how things are going. And I am in no way saying I want a hack and slash. But an encounter like we almost had on the way to the Inn is exactly the kind of thing that can be thrown into the mix that gives a short burst of random action to keep the blood pumping :).

Speaking of which... what's the policy around "raise dead" spells from clerics of Aeiou? Do we ask nicely, pay 500gp, they don't know the spell...? Just in case, of course.
