OOC Discussion

Post by -1warrior »

I've been thinking about starting up a Play-by-Post here. However, before I start brainstorming about a campaign, I would like to know how many people would be interested in another PBP. I would prefer to run a PBP with people who aren't already involved in multiple other Play-By-Posts. So, is there any interest?

I might be interested but first I have to ask what is entailed with a play by post game and how does it work?

Well, how it works all depends on the PBP.

Why don't you read some of the inactive PBPs on this site. That will give you an idea.

Here's a brief definition of how a play-by-post run by me would work:

A play-by-post is a form of online PnP Role-playing. In it, the players post their actions, and the GM/DM posts what occurs because of said reactions. It works very similar to a Face-to-Face game of D&D or BFRPG, except all talking is done by posting on a forum (such as this one). Usually several separate threads within a sub-forum is where the PBP takes place.

Note: in PBPs, the GM rolls all the dice, including those for the players.

Ok more questions.

1. Will you set up a time when everyone should be more or less be on the boards so they can respond or is it more a case of you putting in something and giving the players a set amount of time to respond in.

2. In generating a character how will that work? Do you roll the numbers for that too or do you leave that up to the players?

Guess that's it for now.

1. No I won't. People may post whenever they want in a play-by-post. However, I (as the GM) will occasionally speed things up if they start to get too slow. It is generally polite to post at least once every two days in a play-by-post. Sometimes you'll have to wait on one (or more) person(s) to post before the game can continue. If someone doesn't post after 7 days straight, they get kicked out of the game. I will also PM people if they're being lazy and not posting. ;)

2. I will give the players a set number of points to divide up between their ability scores. At first level, characters will get maximum hit points. After that they will get average hit points per level. Each character will also get a set amount of money to buy equipment with.

If more people sign up I will explain this further.

Sounds great. Count me in. Now for a sort of related question. There are play by post games are there also games that people play via IRC or chat room?
