Cholum did not drop his bow. He did a clean switch, taking a full round. I don't think Chevo even had his bow in the first place. Re-reading the thread, Thann probably did drop his bow - he fell prone after shooting and then the bugbear was on top of him, so he drew his dagger without putting the bow away.

Round 6
Henry shoots the fleeing bugbear and misses wildly.

The owl takes to the air this round and charges the same bugbear. Its first attack is critical failure and it falls onto the ground after a failed take-off. Henry can see that the bird's leg looks a bit injured. Milly can still see through its eyes and feel pain in its leg as it stumbles on the forest floor.

The bugbear below Thann decides to leave the thief in peace, and retreats back to the main group. The one being fired on by Henry now also reaches the main group.

There are 7 left and 5 are injured - three of them very badly! Nonetheless their morale still holds. They have stopped throwing their actual weapons, and 4 of the group find rocks and lob them in the direction of the fighters, hoping for another lucky roll. Chevo gets knocked by a rock for a massive 1 hit point (total now 7).

It's now round 7. The fighters have their bows out and can fire. Henry is climbing a tree. 4 bugbears are continuing their rock assault, and the leader and two others with weapons are getting set to face down the owl as it emerges from the trees into the roadway.

Note: if you fire with your bows, your cover will be reduced to -2. You are likely to kill a few, though. Up to you.

Who knew the Darkledgers were such climbers!:p

The fighters will loose with their bows to keep the bugbears worried while Owly comes around.

Both archers let rip, breaking cover temporarily to shoot at the bugbears while they scavenge more paving stones from the side of the old dwarvish roadway.

Cholum hits a previously injured target (the one who he hit for 10 before) and drops him like a bag of spuds. Dead.

Chevo misses.

The 3 remaining bugbears throw their rocks. One hits. Chevo takes 4 more hit points (11) and is now in really bad shape as well. He has 3 remaining. The bugbears seem pretty good at hurling these rocks!

Meanwhile, the owl takes to the air after its bad start, and prepares to swoop down at the remaining bugbears. That's a full round action.

The bugbears fail morale, again at the sight of the owl and another member dying. The chief barks some instructions and the other 3 bugbears move 40 yards back down the roadway, away from you, in the direction they were coming from originally. The dead (?) troll is left lying in the roadway.

Round 8 -

The owl is in the air and can swoop the group of 6 bugbears - 4 injured. None of them are set against her attack, but they might be able to swipe at her as she flies down there. Could be risky.

Cholum and Chevo can fire again, or take cover. The rock throwers are still 20 yards from you, They might be about to run away. You don't know.

Thann can get a shot off, from the tree, if he re-positions himself. Henry is too far away to able to act right now.

This looks like a pretty major attack force, so killing them will be beneficial to you, but you are in bad shape. Up to you if you want to keep attacking.

Everyone will maintain the assault, lest the bugbears feel too comfortable. The fighters will continue to shoot with their bows, and Thann will reposition to get a shot off himself.

Milly will send Owly in for a (hopefully) final pass.

Okay you asked for it.

Chevo steps out from behind cover (probably a fir tree) and fires. He hits one for 4 hit points of damage. Cholum hits the same one, and takes it to 11. It is still alive as are its 2 fellows.

Thann fires at the rock throwers and hits a previously uninjured one, although not badly. Henry repositions himself so he can start shooting next round, or just hang tight. He is up a tree about 80 yards to the north of where Thann is so it would be a long shot.

Owly swoops down and attacks the rock chuckers as well. She hits with one claw, the same one that Thann just hit. That means all 3 of the rock chuckers are quite injured.

All three of their rock throwing attempts miss, this time. They fail morale and look like they are about to run away. The other group are yelling at them and waiting for them 40 yards to the north.

You going to keep attacking or let them run off? You have the initiative so bowfire as they retreat probably wont cost you anything, but if the owl swoops again they can get melee attacks at it.

The Dwarves (Chevo, Cholum, and Thann) will continue firing at the fleeing bugbears, hopefully they'll drop another of the beasts. Henry will sit tight, no sense drawing attention to himself for such a long shot.

Milly will have Owly circle menacingly, out of reach of any cheeky rock throws preferably.

Cholum misses terribly, but Chevo hits, although not to the point of dropping one. Thann also misses.

The rockthrowers flee a full 80 yards and are now 100 yards distant. The ones beyond move to 140 yards. You may keep firing, or leave it at that.

You seem to have won this battle, anyway.

All in all, that one will probably go down as a bad idea in Milly's memoirs one day.

The Dwarves will stop shooting, Chevo and Cholum will hurry despite their injuries to collect Thann and then Henry from their respective trees.

Once regrouped, the party will collect their elks and make haste away from what remains of the bugbear war party.

Let's say in a generally south west direction toward Q04, with intention of heading toward R04 after that.


What's the tally on remaining hp for the poor dwarves?
And were there 5 bugbears left in the war party?

I've given you hp tallies. Can you check that? I think the fighters both got taken to 11 but you'd need to check. Also, lose half the arrows you shot.

You're not going to check the troll on the stretcher?

The bugbears do flee, with the bird hovering over looking menacing. Milly loses her sense link with it after a while but it still hangs around.

Thann and Henry can climb down and you can regroup, not a problem.

More tommorow. You are badly injured. Waiting it out to heal could take a long time (5-6 days).

Oh, they will check out the troll, I guess I had thought that it was further up the road.

Afterwards they'll head out, trying to find a decent campsite away from menacing bugbears.
