Lord Elkminster is about 200' back down the ridge to the south. The bowmen have been keeping an eye on him, as much as possible.

The roll to stabilize the axeman is much easier, he had less damage. Milly pulls a crit fail initially, but recovers and he ends up on -4.

A gory battle but not a fatal one. Your problem now is that carrying two unconscious dwarves will slow you down to 20 - only one will fit on the elk. That's 4EP a day. Getting out of here might be slow and tricky.

It is going on for the end of the day now. Tell me your intentions, and I'll post exp tomorrow. Do you push on to find the lair, or head back now?

PS - you have its head as a trophy.

The group will push on to the lair, at the very least, they can expect that the Behir won't be needing the shelter tonight. There they will get a well-deserved rest, while probably staring at the fire glassy eyed.

The 'gloamin' comes on as the group push further up the gulley in search of the beast's lair. Mangerin is put upon Lord Elkminster, and some food is left behind to compensate for the extra weight. Raddus and Chevo carry the body of the pikeman, while the scouts do their job finding the lair.

Cholum finds the beasts most recent tracks and follows them to a talus cave about another mile inside the hex. There are bones a plenty around and inside and it is pretty clear the beast used it for shelter, coiled up inside. The bones include deer, a bear, an Aleut, two goblins and what might be a young troll.

Image

Unfortunately, there is no treasure. Milly has a place flash of the inside of the cave, and there are quite a few decent sized pieces of Aleut jewelery made of lapus and bone, that she sees clearly, resting on a ledge. But they aren't there now and she can't extend the vision. Disappointment sets in. The thing's treasure seems to have gone.

Night falls. The cave gives decent shelter.

Edit: EXP - you have fought off a troll, a bugbear attack at night, and achieved your objective of the behir, so I am taking you to 2000 EXP straight away.

Thann and Chevo both go up a level. Cholum is close.

When going up a level, you can take an 'average' HP tally, or roll the dice and take your chances. Thann will get 2 HP this level and 3 the next. (It works over 2 levels, lower number first). Chevo will get 4 and then 5 if he takes the average. Con bonus is included.

Thann also gets 30 more thief percentage points. I think Chevo's BAB also changes? By the way, Thann will need to do some proper thief type activities before I will let him go to 3rd level. (I will work something into the game so he gets to do this.)

"There was treasure here... I wonder who would have taken it?" Milly tells Thann as they settle in for the night.

"Nevermind! We killed the monster! We'll be legends when we get back to Greyforge!" Thann doesn't look convinced as he responds to Milly.

The rest of the group will rest, with Raddus, Manning, Chevo and Cholum pulling watches in that order. 2 Hours each.

The return path to Greyforge in subsequent days will be straight west, to the trail.(along the 02's to L02) Then they will follow the trail north to the main path along the mountains, and follow it west back to Greyforge.

We'll take the average HP rolls. It looks like fighters do get BAB +2 for levels 2-3.

It makes sense that Thann should have to do more Thiefly things in order to sharpen his skills further.

OH, and what day is it/how much does Mangerin weigh as far as rations we've had to discard from LE?

It is Thur May 22nd and you are spending the might in the talus cave.

Nothing happens overnight except that Milly has a strange dream about a large, muscular-looking fighter in leather armor with a longbow, and dark hair, with a dog. (She has dreamed about this man before and does not understand his significance.) She sees him walking through a large underground hallway, of construction similar to the hall within Mt Awen which she thinks contains the forgotten treasure hoard. She gets the strong impression she is looking at him through the eyes of another person.

A recalculation: LE has a load capacity the same as a mule - light =300, heavy = 600. He was only carrying 60 pounds of food as far as I know (?), so an extra 200 pounds is still at light load. That will take him to 30' move, the same as the rest of you. So you still move at 6, and do not need to leave any food behind.

(Mangerin plus armor and weapons weighs about 200 pounds in total.)

You wake up in the morning and it is overcast and may rain a bit, but nothing that will prevent you from travelling.

The wound where Mangerin was bitten looks a bit festering this morning. Given the state of the creature's mouth, this is unsurprising.

(See you when you get back from camping).

The group will muster their supplies. Milly will try to change the dressings on Mangerin's wound, in order to help the healing along.

The group will depart and head west along the 02s toward the trail. 2EP to go to N02 then M02. Then another 1 into L02, and the last EP spent travelling K02 into J01 where they will try to find some rock shelter for the night.

The heal roll - she thinks it is successful and she has got the infection out although it is hard to tell. Technically she needs the skill 'medicine' to get a bonus on this. All the skill 'healing' can do is clean the wound a bit. But she is pretty thorough.

Goods are mustered and Mangerin is put on the elf, leaving the pikeman on a jury-rigged stretcher.

N02 - nothing. M02 - nothing. L02 - nothing. You reach the road after 3 EP. K02 - nothing. J01 - nothing. 4E down.

There is the old trade meeting cave just down the road - I'll give you another 1/2 EP to get there, as the day has been so straightforward. Otherwise you will be camping in the foothills. There is not much other good shelter to be found. Your call.

By the end of the day Mangerin's wound is once again looking a bit messy.

The group will camp in the trade cave. Milly will try to keep the wound clean again, whispering things like "not much longer, and the clerics of the Very True God will have you sorted out" (assuming these exist :p).

The next day the group will head west along the main road bearing hard for greyforge.

I don't have the map handy, but if 4ep won't get them home, Cholum and the scout's will head off back to greyforge to find a healer to help the wounded.

Milly's follow up attempt is not that successful and the infection is deep inside his shoulder. He does not get any hp back and may be losing some.

Luckily you are under a day away.

Some Aleut traders show up late at night. These are from the clan that owns the owl - not the second can you met last tie in Greyforge. There are four of them. They are carrying more furs for trade, on a reindeer, and on their backs.

You can converse with them at any point along your journey, as they will be going to Greyforge at about the same rate as you.

Next day, the weather is excellent. The group progresses all the way down the main road until they get to D02. The gates are only about two miles away.

At this point, one of the Aleut traders, who appears to be the leader, stops. He starts scanning the hillside above the gates, and taking in Aleut. Milly can hear him say...

'She's up there! I can feel her! What's she doing up there?'

He doesn't seem to realise that Milly can speak Aleut as so far all the discussion has been made in Dwarvish, and it is clear that none of the dwarves can speak the Aleut language.

If you want to make anything of that, you can. The Aleut will be let inside the citadel. It's pretty clear the leader has some magical ability. Technically the Aleut are not part of the Church, but still the use of magical powers in Church territory is still very much frowned upon.

So, you get to Greyforge safely. The pikeman and Mangerin get to safety and are taken care of. The Church does indeed have healers - not magical ones, but they do have better skills in medicine and healing than Milly does.

I'll work out the date soon. Expedition 2 is finished. Tell me what you do in Greyforge and then for expedition 3. Also, can you level up?

Milly will approach the Aleut traders, either en route, or when they arrive at Greyforge.

"Greetings noble merchants," Milly will speak in her probably imperfect Aleut. She'll play coy about overhearing their comments about the owl if possible. "I wonder, if you have perhaps lost a great majestic Owl lately? We came across one on our previous expedition, and it is being kept safe in Greyforge awaiting the rightful tribe to come collect her."

Milly will also try to cozy up to the traders, to see if they might possibly have some insight into her 'sight'.
If they seem trustworthy, away from the prying ears of any Very True God (VTG) priests, she'll say something like, "I shared my vision with the Owl... It was the strangest experience."

--

Cholum, Raddus, and Manning will help get Mangerin and Arnsty to the healers. Surely Raddus will want to be by his comrade's side.

--

Chevo, accompanied by Thann, will report in with Gurr, triumphantly leading Toby and Welsley, who are hauling the Behir's head between them. With overly proud arms held out to his sides, he'll proclaim: "Well, Father? Behold, the terror of the Vale, brought low by the might of the Onyxbreaker clan!! For Greyforge!"

"Mangerin and Arntsy took nasty wounds, but they should recover. The bards will sing of their heroic stand before the Behir for centuries to come. I would welcome brave Dwarves like them at my side against any foe that the Vale could think to throw at us!"

"What of the campaign to recover the Vale, Father? Would you have us focus on Mt. Awen, or perhaps a scouting mission to Uppers? We mustn't fear these evil greenskins."
Thann will nod enthusiastically in agreement with Chevo, but his eyes and sweaty brow will betray what he really thinks of a large battle at Uppers.

OOC: I've updated Chevo and Thann with their level 2 stats, updated, BAB,HP and Saves where appropriate. That reminds me I'll update Thann's thiefly skills right now.
