So, you move into L02, spending an EP, and...nothing happens. Cholum can't find any more tracks that night.

Overnight...nothing happens at all. It's the 14th. You get up the following morning - the weather is the same, still pretty rainy, and you are wondering when the hell the sun is going to come out, when about eight deer come fleeing down a nearby animal track. They are obviously trying to get away from something. They would normally avoid you but they are obviously really frightened of whatever it is, and they run within about 10 yards of you.

You are in woodland, your camp still yet to be packed. What do you do?

Cholum will move out approximately 10 metres or so towards where the deer were fleeing from to stand watch in case whatever it is is pursuing the deer.

The rest of the group will quickly try to collect their backpacks, packing as much as they can as quickly as possible. If Cholum sees anything he'll call out if it's approaching quickly, or sneak back to the group if nothing comes or whatever it is is approaching slowly.

Milly gets a strong first person flash of seeing through the eyes of a large creature that is scampering through the forest at high speed. She can't exactly see what form she is in, but she can see she has lizard-like front legs.

This happens just as Cholum is moving out towards the group of deer.

The rest of you can't hear the chasing creature yet, because there are a bunch of panicking deer nearby, crashing through the trees.

Milly has frozen up, and is just standing there with her back-pack half on. The rest of you can all have a round. You don't know about her vision yet.

Oh snap!

The rest of the group will continue the original plan for the round. As soon was Milly pulls herself together, she'll frantically warn the party packing up camp.

"I think it's the Behir! I've had a vision! We need to get the hells out of here!"

Assuming we get this far, Chevo will send Thann to warn Cholum and the party will flee in a perpendicular direction to the path the deer are on.

Rest of round 1 - Cholum moves out...
Chevo keeps packing...
Thann notices that Milly has frozen...

Round 2 -
Milly - "I think it's the Behir! I've had a vision! We need to get the hells out of here!"
Cholum - can now see the Behir. It is 9 feet long, and white / blue in color. It is 140' away and moving at 80'. The deer are 40' behind you by this point. They are moving at 50'.

Everyone runs like hell. You all move 60'. Milly can move 80' if she wants to separate.

The behir moves 80' and gains 20' on you. The question is, does it follow the deer, or you?

Do you do anything else, or just keep running and hope it choses the deer? If you take any other actions you will have to slow down.

Stream of Consciousness OOC: Damn. Hindsight is 20/20 right? Did any of the deer straggle off in front of the party? I did say we'd run away from the furry Behir-bait. I'd say drop some rations but that would slow us down, and might not even work.

I think all we can do is hope for the best at this point. The party will keep running, and hopefully not lose d4 party members...

fingers crossed

It all comes down to luck at this point...

The behir makes an intelligence roll to see if it realises you are slower than its intended target.

It rolls a 1. (If we were on RPOL I could show you that...)

You run another 120' feet in 2 rounds and realise the creature has gone the other way, after the deer. They were 180' from the creature and have increased their lead by 40 or so. They will outrun it pretty fast.

You can still just hear the herd, running away to the north of you. What do you do...stop, scatter rations in case it comes back, or keep moving? Any ideas?

"I think it went after the deer" Cholum says while panting after the sprint. "We need to keep moving, those deer will probably outrun that monster. This way"

Cholum will lead the group another 45 degrees from the original path of the deer. So if the deer were originally heading straight south, the group would be headed something like North west. Hopefully this will maximize the distance between them and the Behir when it gives up chasing the deer.

They will run hard in that direction for a few minutes, along the way Cholum will try to leverage his Woodsman skills to find some decent terrain that will minimize the tracks they're leaving for the behir.

Cholum's woodcraft roll is good. You find a bouldered area with some running streams and make your way across that, minimizing tracks and crossing a lot of water too. After about twenty minutes there is no more noise and no sign of being chased.

The deer ended up going north, so you went south west, away from the main path. It is now about 1200 yards to the north of you - that's over half a mile.

All that has only taken .5 EP and you are still in L02, near the boundary of L03.

Do you go back to the path or slog it out cross country? And, where are you going?

OOC: Well the plan was to find the Behir's nest, so sub-objective 1a) 'find the behir' completed. Now to find it's lair. While not dying. Preferably.

The party will cut it East, heading cross country, but back towards where they think the trail should be. Along the way Cholum will keep an eye out for Behir tracks in the mud.

"Everyone do an inventory, what did we leave behind?" Chevo will demand of the group.

In the rush to pack things up, I'm sure something got left behind.

When the party gets to the trail, they'll continue south into L03 and give it a good 3 EP searching while keeping quiet and watching for evidence of the behir.
