IIRC, no other spells. I thought it'd be later too.

I'm guessing it's a stone door and not a wooden door?

"Hm. It's a strange door. Not sure whether it's for red dwarves or for short humans." says Kilian.

Bruce will post watch on the northern passage (shortbow) while Anna and Freya attempt to pick that lock (check for traps first though).

You already searched for traps and found none.

Anna opens the lock with surprising ease, given that no one else has gotten in here in hundreds of years. The door is a thick and sturdy stone door and opens outwards.

Beyond is some pretty neat stuff stashed away in what is basically an oversized cupboard. You have a wheelbarrow, a great many pottery and metal containers of things like paint, varnish and oil, some paint brushes, a folding wooden ladder, some old stone carving tools, several brooms (now useless), a set of metal keys, several spare door locks, door handles, 4 lamps, wicks, and what turns out to be a zippo-style flint wheel lamplighter. There is also four wooden stools, two braziers with some charcoal, numerous pairs of wooden and cork clogs, a pair of stilts, a metal grate (2x2) designed to fit over a hole, and a tattered book in a language you don't know, but that is probably Old Mundine. It looks like this:

Plus, an ancient wizened apple core, and a bronze tankard gone green with age.

Bruce takes guard and sees the northern corridor stretching on beyond the limit of his darkvision. But, he can just make out the entry way to the first group of rooms on the western side of map 3a. It looks like someone has placed big stones in the doorway to prevent anyone getting in there.

Interesting in multiple ways!

The northern passage is completely blocked, which means either whatever was shuffling around earlier left via the hole in the ceiling, or there's a third route out of here. Elves, search the place for more routes out of here! Dwarves, you too!

Is the cupboard small enough for the party to hole up in and sleep, when it becomes sleepytime?

After sweeping for traps, Freya will sort the stuff into "valuable" | "kinda valuable" | "interesting" | "worthless." Kilian will then decide whether the party can carry the extra weight. The keys are definitely valuable! Will the ladder reach the hole in the ceiling?

Anna and Bruce can go down the corridor with Anna searching for traps. Bummer that the corridor is blocked! How big are the big stones?

PS Don't be surprised if I keep searching for traps. I know how you roll! :)

But, he can just make out the entry way to the first group of rooms on the western side of map 3a. It looks like someone has placed big stones in the doorway to prevent anyone getting in there.

This just means that the entryway to the first group of rooms west off the main corridor is blocked. Not the whole north corridor. You can still go that way.

The ladder, when folded out, reaches 15' easily. It's actually a good piece of kit. It's also in good condition. It weights 20 pounds but is a bit cumbersome.

The cupboard would just be big enough to hole up in...if you took all the stuff out.

The carving tools are valuable. Maybe 20gp, Bruce thinks. The lighter is pretty cool, but seems to be out of juice. Everything else is...yeah. Not so valuable.

Anna + blue light plus Bruce head north for a bit and find no traps for the first 30'. Anna is quite as a ghost, bu Bruce is clunking along behind her and his armor squeaks at every step. You can now see the eastern corridor off the main tunnel and it looks like that has also been barricaded.

The barricades look like wall and floor stones from part of the dungeon that have been piled up in the doorways. No mortar is apparent, so you could probably bust them down in a round or two. Really they are just stones piled up one on another.

Probably time to post a map of 3a, if you are going to head up in that direction. Like I said before it is only early afternoon.

Ok, finishing up on this room.

Freya will try the keys to see if any fit this door. That'd be awesome if it did. Bruce can claim the carving tools if he wants. Maybe he's secretly a carving artisan. That'd be so like a city dwarf, ending up a woodcarver. ;) He can also pocket the lighter for now. The party can sort out everything later. Talin will put the ladder behind one of the pillars, as out of sight as possible. Tiana will pack up the book. Valuable or not, it's going. Later, she'll try reading it with the glasses. Unlikely, but she'll still try.

I did misunderstand the barricade, so as soon as Anna realizes that it's the WEST passage not the NORTH passage that's boarded up, she'll immediately stop and wait for the rest of the party to show up. Once they're all there, Freya and Talin will check for tracks. If everything has been sealed up, maybe there's some good tracks to indicate what's been slithering around.

In a perfect world, here's the general plan: head north, head west, take the secret tunnel to the surface. It's good that the eastern passage is sealed -- it will save the dwarves the trouble of worrying about something sneaking up from behind -- but they're a bit surprised and confused why the western rooms are sealed up. However, the elves and humans (and Bruce?) wouldn't mind getting some fresh air and figuring out where they are first.

They are tools for carving stone. Chisels and the like. Bruce thinks he has seen some like this in a shop in Brandt one time.

You track the north passage, and neither of you can find anything. There's rats and small insects and cave debris and general dungeon funkiness, but no tracks that you can find.

I have assumed from your post you are heading north. You get to the point where you can see the doorway to the third group of rooms, to the north, before the passageway turns into a corner room, and goes west and heads towards (what you are assuming is) the tunnel to the surface.

There is no door and no barricade for that doorway. However, Freya can see an a big 7' wide battering ram, which is on a long platform on makeshift wooden slides, almost like skis. It is of recent construction, probably made by the goblins. You could potentially push it along the main corridor in front of you, on the slides, but you'd think it would keep getting stuck on the cobblestones every now and again. It could also be picked up and used to push people or creatures along the corridors.

There could be more stuff in those rooms to the north but so far Freya has only just gotten within sight of the doorway.

I never answered your previous question - the keys do not fit the lock to the cupboard. But they look to be in decent condition, having been wrapped in waxed leather. They are of dwarvish make, and there's no doubt they are going to fit something sooner or later.

You are correct. I'll also be doing the 'Freya in front by 30', checking for traps' usual stance.

"A battering ram, here?" Kilian looks puzzled. "Whatever for?" He'll take a closer look at it. Has it seen much action? Which way is it pointing, north or south? I imagine it's too big to turn around save for the larger intersections. And did you mean 7' wide or 7' long? A 7' wide ram would be huge!

Freya will sneak a peek at the room, using the periscope. Does it look occupied? If not, she'll wave up the rest of the party.

Anna will leave the lock unlocked, and then close the door to the cupboard.

Battering ram was probably the wrong term.

It's a bit like a big 7-foot wide shield, one the end of a very thick pole, that has been mounted on wooden slides. It is just outside the northern group of rooms, pointing south. The purpose is clearly to move up and down the main corridor. You couldn't fit the thing through the doorways around here, unless you took the big wooden piece off the front. It would make decent cover to hide behind while you moved it along. Kilian (when he moves up) thinks it has definitely seen some action lately, and the shield part has been replaced or added more recently than the pole.

Make sense?

I'm presuming you mean that Freya uses the periscope to look around the corner to the west? She succeeds admirably in stealth and trap finding rolls, and moves up confidently. She can now see into the odd looking ''corner" room, which turns out to contain a large wooden pail with arrows in it, about 30 of them. There are two bows on hooks on the wall, of goblin make. Looks like a place where archers could stand to defend the position, drawing arrows from the container. But there are no goblins there now.

She moves a bit further into the room and looks down the western corridor. At the end of it, she can see a different kind of barricade has been positioned behind the doorway, in the passageway on the other side. This one has been made of wood, and is mounted on very primitive wooden wheels. It looks like you'd have to roll it out of the way to access the room on the other side.

She can't see for sure but she suspects the thing has been moved quite recently. It looks very much as though this is a goblin guard point, guarding whatever is past that barricade.

Which sucks for you, because that is exactly where you wanted to go...

It's like there's this evil DM nemesis, confounding my every move!

They'll explore the northeastern room, with Freya keeping watch halfway down the western corridor (wherever she is now is fine). Assuming nothing interesting happens, the party will get ready for ranged combat and Freya will then get closer to the barricade. She won't move it, but what I'd like to know before planning more action is whether the barricade (or the room behind it) is occupied.
