Getting back up to 3a? Seeing as it's fairly close to the wall, Anna or Freya could climb up there round, with a roll. Stowing the ladder - a round or two? Then everyone has to move down there, and climb up. Basically you can al be out of here in a few minutes if you hurry about.

No sign of the creature waking up or anything coming yet.

That's what we'll do then. The dwarves, Talin, and Tiana take the ladder up. The stealthy ones will fold up the ladder and take it back into the cupboard, lock it up, and then depart via the ropes that Talin and the dwarves drop down for them. Nice, quiet, and easy.

(what could go wrong?)

Assuming that works to plan, they'll take 7/8 to the secret mirror and out for the night, because it's got to be getting close to dinnertime. Right?
Freya HP 24/24 AC 16 (17 two weapons)
Kilian HP 20/20 AC 19 (18 no shield)
Talin HP 29 AC 16
Tiana HP 11 AC 12 SP 8/8
Fido HP 9/9 AC 16
Anna HP 12/12 AC 15 (19 defensively)
Bruce HP 20/20 AC 16 (15 no shield)

Nah, it's early afternoon.

Anyway, you have the ladder stashed, and Freya and Anna are down below, just coming out of the main door from area 13 (on level 3a), when you hear the unmistakable sound of the barricade being slid open. That's the one up guarding the secret passage to the surface, over a hundred feet to the north.

You can't hear any other noise, just the barricade being slid open.

You got options.

1 - Move like hell to get out of there.
2 - Freeze and hide in area 13.
3 - Continue stealthily.
4 - Fight whatever it is.

Everyone else is 15' up in area 12b, and quite safe, over the hole. If Freya and Anna move fast they can probably get up there before anything bad happens but we'll have to play it by round.

I take it you mean the cupboard door. It was closed and re-locked already.

Round 1 - Freya and Anna both run like hell down to the south end of the room and Anna scrambles up in to the rope.

Not much sign of action.

Round 2. Anna clears the rope and is in the hole. Freya is on the rope.

Shouting noises, a strange growling noise. Dog, wolf, who knows?

Round 3 - Freya is up the rope and you are all away.

Numerous humanoids moving down the north corridor, not that fast.

Do you want to wait and see what they are, or do you want to just get out of there?

By the way, you could only fit two active characters in this hole in a single round - one acting after the other. Everyone else will have to stand back, out of the way. I'll also let you swap one character a round.

Discretion is the better part of valor. Besides, I don't want to wake up an entire city of goblins. I think a dozen goblins is even too much for Kilian.

The party will pull up the rope, and quickly/quietly withdraw. They'll move back to the southern 5a, ensure no creatures await them at 6, then head north to the other 5a and then 34. If things are uneventful, the plan is 34, 35, 33, 32. If all that goes uneventfully (heh), they'll listen/check the 20/31 corridor, first for occupants, then secret doors..

Your stealth rolls are a combination of brilliant and horrible and you are pretty sure that the advancing creatures know something is up in your location, because they start shouting, in goblinish, as you flee the hole.

You get away from them and move into area 5. As you are moving past area 6, there is definite activity up the stairs as well. Anna, with an excellent hearing roll, can even hear another barricade being rolled away.

You make it to the doorway to '5a' a few seconds later, and you have to make a decision. From what you can hear, it seems pretty likely that creatures will come down from the upper levels through room 6 and have another look around. Do you hide again? Or do you keep going through 34 and northwards towards that secret door?

All this seems to suggest that there is just one goblin tribe up there...and that there could be rather a lot of them.

I think we need a distraction. How easy would it be for either Tiana with mage hand to rush a lit candle or Talin to fire a lit arrow down to 5c? If that's viable, they'll do that and then head north to find the secret door/area.

If that doesn't seem likely/easy, plan B is to toss a lit candle to the other 5a while the party ducks into 2->1 and call it an early day.

Sigh. That's two alarms in one day.

You are pretty sure you have enough time to get something on fire down to the western bit of area 5, to distract whatever comes south from area 6.

The question is - can you also be pretty quiet while moving that way? If not, they'll hear you and chase you.

Another thing to consider is that if you hide again, they might start paying much closer attention to this whole area and when you come in tomorrow, there will be more guards and alarms.

It's pretty clear they do not come down here often, and when they do, they sometimes die. So maybe if you run fast enough they'll simply stop chasing you.

See the OOC thread for some other comments.
