Okay...

Moving into Big Beech hex and you lose the trail (1EP). You don't know why.

You now have 1EP left in the day and are well into Big Beech hex. You haven't encountered anything in this hex. Any further moves before you camp?

[Woe]

Nope, will thoroughly investigate the area and find a good place to camp for the night. With six watches and a seemingly safe location, one person per watch. Anna (human), Brucejames , Kilian, Freya, Tiana, Talin.

It's possible that they went to ground, so Kilian and Bruce will explore that idea.

Yep, possible. Further exploration of the hex still revels no sign of where they might have gone.

Then you bed down for the night after securing a pretty safe place to camp.

Bruce is on watch when a noise is heard in the distant = a strange high-pitched growling from a small animal. Fido becomes alert to it and wants to give chase. Bruce quickly wakes the others. It's getting closer, maybe only 120 feet off at this point. It doesn't sound very big.

Talin thinks its a weasel. Freya isn't quite sure.

I'm moving house so won't be posting much for a bit. No internet in new place...

Weasels! Fido stays with the group (heel dog!) but the party stays alert. If anyone has a target, they'll take a shot unless it is confirmed to be not weasel.

Fido nearly went running into the woods but you restrained him, this time...

You get no shot - it is in trees outside your camp area. You'd have to move so you could see it.

The strange growling / yowling noise continues for a while, and then moves further away, then stops completely.

You can go looking (at any of these points), or ignore it and sit tight.

We didn't see them and they didn't see us. And if that's not true, don't tell me otherwise.

Oh what a beautiful morning! Time to explore the hex more thoroughly and follow the trail. The party will take a quick detour to see if there are any tracks or markings from last night that can hint at what was there. If there's a trail... they may follow it if it diverges from the other trail they were following.

Assuming they can find anything at all!

You spend another EP in Big Beech hex (E31) and...you find some human tracks heading into E29. Some seem recent (yesterday), others seem older. There seems to be quite a lot of human activity in this hex generally but you cant figure out where it is centred.

Another EP here? Following the trails?

Yep, following the recent tracks and see where they take us. Or if all else fails, second tree to the right, and straight on till evening.

You follow the recent tracks quite easily for about a mile until you are almost on the edge of the hex and then someone starts shooting at you from a stand of tall beech trees about 80 yards away.

Two crossbow bolts fly at your group simultaneously. One misses you by a long way. The other hits Talin in the leg for a measly 2 hit points.

You can all see a large dark mass in one of the trees, probably ivy. You think the bolts may have come from in there.

Moving forward, there is not lot of cover. Behind you, there is plenty, about 40 yards off. Lying down in the grass will add +6 to your AC in this situation.

They'll definitely drop to the ground and spread out, then head back toward better cover. Does anyone have a target? Tiana will spend her attention on the cover behind them, not making sure they're walking into a crossfire. Talin checks the bolt to make sure it's not poisoned.
