If only she had spent more time in magic missile class!

If she spends a round waking the others, would they be able to fire on round two? She'll also note the direction it is flying.

It'd be at least a round to wake the others, by which time it's going to be over a hundred feet away and into the darkness.

It's going north. That's all you can see.

So it's really now or never. You have daggers, or you could try looking for something to animate, but it is flying through the trees and they are living organic matter so that seems unlikely.

(I should specify that I have slightly rethought the animate spell. You can't use it on living matter. What you did to the ogre must have involved dead tree branches at ground level.)

Oh wow, I'm sorry. I thought the range for animate was 30' not 60'. Tiana is going to animate her winter blanket as a net and try to tangle the creature up so it falls to the ground. She'll try to wake the others but if she doesn't, no worries.

OK, but that requires hurling your blanket at least 20' out into the near darkness to get near enough to attack it with the spell. The speed of an animated object is only '20.

Do you want to try that? It would be very hard to pull off.

You can yell and wake the others. Waking them quietly would be an action.

OOC: You'll want to update the animate spell to state a move speed of 20'. It makes sense (animate object is only 10'/rd) but I wasn't aware of that before you mentioned it.

Three options, as I don't know if option #1 (my favorite) works:

Option #1:
Can Tiana use her 40' move to get under the creature and then attack with the spell (move then attack)? As long as it isn't beyond 20' away after her move, that'd solve the range problem.

Option #2:
Can Tiana use her 40' move to get under the creature and then throw her dagger at it? I don't expect a success, but not a lot of other ideas come to mind. Haha... worst outcome is that the creature will fly away with the dagger embedded.

Option #3 (otherwise):
It's beyond the range of a dagger, so Tiana won't be able to take it down with her weapons. It doesn't sound like waking the archers up would help, as the creature would still be long gone by the time arrows were nocked.

She'll instead wake the party and get ready to move out. They'll leave early this morning, and can catch a nap while the dwarf takes a bath.

(OOC - I will indeed update the spell. Didn't realise I had not put that detail in there).

Option #1 isn't feasible at this point. The problem is that there are no decent-sized inanimate objects in the tree canopy that you could use to attack the creature.

So you go for option 2 and dash after it out of the overhang, lobbing a dagger as it stops briefly on a tree branch.

Much against the odds, you hit it.

The creature drops down from the canopy with a dagger stuck in it. It is still alive and making a horrid squawking noise.

(This was a close one).

If it's alive but not a threat, she'll bash it with her staff. If it is alive but unable to move, she'll wake the others (assuming they aren't awake from the screeching). The others will take it out with the ranged weapons, since there's no point risking their hides.

OOC: Next time Tiana is in town, she's definitely stocking up on silence 15' radius spells. Yelling ogres, screaming (creatures)... what's next, a operatic mustard jelly?

PS My original intent for option #1 was to use the winter blanket as a net. It's light and nearby. Doesn't matter now.

Got it.

The creature is alive and helpless, could be trapped or killed, your call. You rolled a nat 20 with the dagger and hit it in the wing membrane.

Talin is awake and ready, the other two are rising. You want to move or stay put?

(OOC - I didn't realise you'd be running with the blanket, although the animated blanket was a good idea. I'll retain that image.)

OOC: Do I recognize the creature? Stirge?

Yes, silence the shrieker. It's a shame to kill a sentient (?) being but it needs to stop wailing. After which, move out soon as there is enough light for Talin to see by. The others can catch up on rest during the day, or quit early if needed.
