Oh! There's another idea I had, back from Baldur's Gate (not sure if you played it, but I'm referring to Imoen). She doesn't have the INT for it, but Anna is human. She could become our evil human sorceress.

Or Talin, but he's rocking it on the ranger stats right now.

:)

Let's defer it at least for a little bit and see where things go. We already have a "how to convert Kilian into a warpriest" arc. I'm ok seeing where this goes and figuring it out later.
Freya HP 24/24 AC 16 (17 two weapons)
Kilian HP 20/20 AC 19 (18 no shield)
Talin HP 29 AC 16
Tiana HP 11 AC 12 SP 8/8
Fido HP 9/9 AC 16
Anna HP 12/12 AC 15 (19 defensively)
Bruce HP 20/20 AC 16 (15 no shield)

Before the party goes much further, it's early September. You recommended ages ago, continuing through mid-October before moving away from the wilderness exploration. Correct?...

The weather in September will be pretty reliable. It will get a bit colder but still clear enough for decent exploring. By mid-October it will get increasingly rainy and windy and I might start imposing a few penalties. By November, I definitely would.

Can I point out a potential time limit here - you were warned that the Old Man is seeking a way into 'Cogan mine' where he hopes to find something that will allow him to destroy you. In the meantime he is avoiding you. I'll hunt down Jane and Goner's testimony and look up exactly what was said. But I think there's some clear reason not to dally too long over winter.

I'll be back later.

Yes, I hadn't forgotten but it was pushed back farther in my mind. In terms of story line, the party hasn't been that pressed by Nisha lately. Maybe it's because the Old Man has been avoiding them. Maybe it's the bugbears and the goblins not avoiding them. Maybe it's the excitement of getting past the locked door and finding so much inside the catacombs. At some point I'm sure he'll inject himself into my life again.

But there's a lot of ways it can go, which means... wing it! :)

Here's one fun scenario.

Old Man meets the party for the first time. [sinister voice] "So, we finally meet. Too bad it means your demise."

[Tiana] "Not so fast. I too have mastered the powers of the Salen." (insert hordes of iron golems/zombies/whatever here)

[Kilian] "Don't be too proud of this magical terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a human is insignificant next to the power of the RockFather." (summons hordes of stone golems)

[I got nuthin' for the other two]
Freya HP 24/24 AC 16 (17 two weapons)
Kilian HP 20/20 AC 19 (18 no shield)
Talin HP 29 AC 16
Tiana HP 11 AC 12 SP 8/8
Fido HP 9/9 AC 16
Anna HP 12/12 AC 15 (19 defensively)
Bruce HP 20/20 AC 16 (15 no shield)

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=1448&p=43759&hilit=Goner#p43759

Goner's Story.

He didn't specify a timeline on how long it was going to take the were-weasels to penetrate Malagosbe and get what the Old Man wants in there. But he did specify the creatures have changed their route to Cogan, and are now going into the mountains near Broken Tor and then heading north - there's more goblins, but, there's less chance of meeting you.

Maybe it will take years for the Old Man to get into Malagosbe. Maybe. Or, it could be next week. Who knows?

Independence from Britain is something that I'd certainly celebrate, if I could. Hope you enjoyed it.

PS - this encounter is probably the worst you have ever had. Good luck.

Why do I never hear, "this encounter is probably the easiest you have ever had" from you?

Because they're so easy I wouldn't bother to mention it!

Incidentally I have been toying around with the formula on how many game points you get in this form of the game, and decided that it is 1 per character at 1st level, 1 at 3rd, and 1 at 5th.

So you right now Woe has 7 (1 spent) and Grendel has 4 (0 Spent).

This is relevant for Woe right now and may be relevant for Grendel pretty soon.

Well... I didn't expect that. Decisions, decisions. Upon review, there doesn't seen to be any consideration of alignment in BFRPG, or at least I didn't choose any earlier.

Argh, it's a tough call. Probably shouldn't be, but there it goes acting all innocent after scorching poor Arntsy. I imagine Raddus won't abide any clemency on the best.

Anyway, well played,a good moral dilemma for the Dwarvish explorers.

I make the general assumption that PCs are basically 'good', even if self-serving. If you were an evil party this would be a whole different set-up.

Lawful and Chaotic have never appealed to me as alignment indicators because ignore they race, and other contexts. For example I'd say most of your PCs would be Lawful in a Dwarven context, but might not behave within the laws of the Aleut or other human realms, if they were to travel there.

As for the Behir - these creatures are a menace, and have killed many of your ancestors. Although they are not always hostile, they were generally greedy and territorial. Their return to lands that were formerly held by your people is a real problem. You can negotiate if you want, but I'd not hold it against you if you slaughtered it.

Bear in mind you might miss, and it might easily kill another one or even two of you, before you take it down. The two axemen did roll very well.

If you negotiate for a round or so you can make INT rolls to see if you think it is lying about thinking you were animals...but at this early stage, it is impossible to tell.
