Grendel -

I have moved all your characters into the character thread. I think you can edit them now, as they are your posts not mine.

Please also feel free to post in this thread if you have any OOC questions. It is for both yourself and Woe.

Thanks, I updated the profiles with their (max) HP and background skills. Will you be keeping track of their current HP, or should I edit that into my signature or something?

Starting to think I should have brought a Ranger, these Dwarves might not be very good at finding food for themselves. Or else a shameful hungry shopping trip back to Greyforge to collect some more rations.

I'm enjoying this quite a bit, this will be the first time I've been involved in a campaign where details like how many rations a person brought will actually be important. A friend of mine tried to enforce it once, but it unravelled pretty quickly.

If your campaign is like mine, you'll be going into the forest, running out of food, going back to town, realizing you're broke, then back into the forest hoping to find something to sell so you can go back into town to buy some food...

And having a ranger won't necessarily help. I have a ranger and a scout, and half of what I'm finding isn't edible anyway. Or more appropriately, they are finding me because I'm edible? Anyway, goblins are too greasy, worms are too earthy, and gumps melt in your hands not in your mouth. Oh, and one time I shot a rabbit which was probably a good lycanthrope. As a result, the ranger ended up burying the only game he shot.

You might be luckier with a lot of dwarves. Don't they have an innate ability to sense gold from miles away?

Well that's good to hear :) I was worried I might be derailing my whole adventure from the get-go because I underestimated how long we'd need rations for.
I Love the story about the Rabbit Lycanthrope... I can just see the reactions, "wait... so we can't eat it?"

I think i'm going to have the Dwarves start concentrating to see if any gold is calling out to them. I'll probably have better luck with my seer. :p

Actually if you could track your HP in your sig that would be awesome.

Options - you could quickly retcon Cholum into either a scout or a ranger? See the last post in the rules thread. Or, you could meet a new one (which I would run as an NPC).

That would certainly help with tracking.

Here are some rules for foraging and hunting. Bear in mind you are further north than Woe so food is a little bit more scarce up here:

Foraging / hunting while moving - A scout or ranger could do this without losing any EP, with success being 1-4 in this terrain. A success means you get food for the day for that character. Other characters could also do it but they'd lose 2 EP for the day. This does not add an extra encounter roll.

Foraging / hunting while camping - if you elect to stay put all day and forage / hunt, you are all successful in finding a day's food on a 1-5. Scouts and Rangers also have a 3 in 6 chance of finding 1d6 days of extra food. The downside is an extra encounter roll.

Or you could just bring more food... :)

I feel a little bit dirty about the Retcon, but it would make sense if they set out on their grand quest with a ranger to help with tracking. Cholum has the minimum requirements, and it wouldn't really have changed how he's handled himself so far, I guess a bit of tracking here and there may have taken place.
Oh, and the favoured enemy, which I think has been culturally mandated to be goblins.

Is that ok? Cholum suddenly remembers that he was trained in this kind of thing?

That's fine. It's a +3 damage bonus vs goblins. That is enough to kill most goblins unless he rolls a 1 on damage.

He also gets a +2 bonus with bows. Those are his fighter skills chosen. He doesn't get another pick until 5th level. (Chevo will get to pick 2 of these skills once he hits 3rd level.)

Finally, he gets Move Silently at 25, Hide at 10, and Tracking at 40, to start with. Every time he goes up a level he gets to add 15 points on these.

Let's say it was him who saw the behir tracks, and the goblin tracks.

Retcon away!

Decisions decisions... I feel like the smart choice is to scamper home to lick wounds, then tell everyone about the great dragon that we faced off against. But who ever got rich by running home?

Arg.
