Don't get me wrong, Identify is a fine spell. You just haven't got it.
The elves in my campaign are very insular and only really interested in their own thing. That's why your elvish history is so sketchy on what everyone else has been doing.
1st level characters start with 0 game points.
2nd level characters get 1 each for going to level 2. That'd give you 4.
3rd level characters get 2 each for going to level 2. That'd give you 8.
Hence 12 in total.
Normally in my tabletop games, they are given to a particular player, to save his or her ass, and buy new characters. But seeing as you are running the whole party, you can have all of them.
If you are not using the Game Points optional rules, each new character must start at level 1. That's the kicker. If you get to higher levels and suddenly want a replacement, they will be way below you in level.
If I were you I'd take the points, but act like you haven't got them unless it's a total emergency.
Multi-class counts as 1 level higher.

Points it is. I'll try it out.
Also, would it be possible for Tiana to learn human magic, either naturally or by using a background skill?

Technically she could, but it would count as a different class. I know that sounds weird, having a multi-classed MU/ MU, but that is how I would approach that.
If you want to go that way you'd need to:
Learn to decipher and read these runes
In all likelihood, lean the language that accompanies them (3 months time)
Gain 500 exp to go to 1st level in the new MU class.
You'd get 1hp plus con bonus for taking the new level.
Again, this is a reason I asked about new characters. It may get to the point where you might want a, old human magic spellcaster. Or a druid for that matter.

Makes sense. The new classes won't be more powerful than the current classes though, so I'll look at what's possible and then decide "eeh... scholarly Tiana is cool too." Now if you happen to be planning overpowered classes... oh ok, I'd be very surprised if you were.

Using a real ruined castle was an experiment that may have run its course.
If you are OK with continuing, I'll do it. But, I could try to replace the castle with a ruined keep of some kind designed for RPG and that would make things less cool, but much easier to play.
I sense that this is not the only time there may be encounters here, so if we are going to swap, we should do it now rather than later.
What do you think? Change, or tough it out? There's really no way I can make a better scale map of this place.

Tough it out for now, because I don't want to slow down the encounter. Next time, let's do the top-down hex map similar to the goblin forest battle. Or what we can do is use the ruined castle for ambiance, but when we drop into combat the map rules even if the image is inaccurate.
I'm ok telling you what I generally want to do and go map-free, as long as you don't mind if I also ask questions like "how far is it from A to B" and "is there a place to hide".

yeah, but answering questions like that can take too long.
I could be out of action over Easter, I'll have a think about it, maybe I'll come up with a proper castle map or something.

No more casting the spell before you pick.
I missed something. Did I have the option to pick the stronger web and missed it? If so, oops. LMK when I do because I didn't know I had an option.
Man, that's a tough spell!
It's a really crazy spell for #2. Did you ever play Baldur's Gate? Once I picked up that spell, I became unstoppable against small armies of kobolds. Observe the progression:
- web + sleep (plink plink arrow kills, until I got the boots of freedom)
- web + stinking cloud (extra incapacitation since the two play well with each other)
- web + fireball (my favorite combo... plasma!)
- stinking cloud + fireball (in BG, stinking cloud was flammable)
Can I haz fireball?
Fireballs aside, elf magic appears to be more aligned with the alteration school of magic than the evocation school. I'll play accordingly, but web+fireball... heh. Might be better for the goblins over the long run that the web won't be flammable.

You can not haz fireball. Elves do not do that.
Likely 3rd level spells -
Haste and Slow
Hold Person ( a more focused version of web)
Fly (if you also get Levitate at 2nd level)
Protection from Normal Missiles
Animate (Improved)
Token Object (Improved).
Improved version of animate will let you move attended objects, and also tear away at the fabric of larger objects. It can function like spiritual hammer (as a bludgeoning style weapon).
RE: the web spell. Could have sworn I mentioned that. Can't find it on a search. You have the option of normal web, or, stronger web that is inflammable. (I'd prefer the 2nd choice personally). Pick now please.

Stronger, definitely! It's both in character and more valuable if I can't haz plasmaball!
