Going back to mapping, if I originally explore a hex at >1 EP, that means I can pass through without getting lost?

Chances of getting lost at 2EP are low, but it is still possible.

Chances at 3EP are almost nothing.

I think we're going opposite ways on the map. I was in K15 and headed upstream. I was in K15 and that'd be heading south, right? Then the gump appeared. I was in K15 on Friday night, and then the next post is where we started going different directions. Either way... now posting the not-really-moving move since the party will be resting a few days.

If it helps, L16 is the probable destination. It looks more passable than other areas. Once healed up, that will be the next exploration area unless the river/exploration of K16 reveals something notable.

You are right. I had misread your earlier post and thought you were going north, back to the route you originally specified before you had to detour south along the Lower Swell.

Anyway, you did cross the river, as you say. (In fact the log bridge was only a big deal when you were in combat, and, you did not need ropes to get over it.)

You move south into what is probably K15 or K16. (You aren't exactly lost, you are just unsure of how what you are seeing relates to your earlier map.)

There are no encounters and you do not see any obvious ruins, just a lot of mountains and trees and fast-flowing streams out of the mountains to the east.

Nowhere obvious to stay either, like caves or anything. You have spent 1EP this morning and 2EP after the encounter. The day is half over.

You can camp around here someplace ordinary, or, you can keep looking.

We shall keep looking, because I remember that at 4EP, I find the hidden cow level. :)

More seriously, the party will spend the time trying to find something already defensible. I don't think Kilian will be able to set up a great fortress on his own, and there's not much luck surviving the next few days without something sturdy.

I just want to clarify a few things OOC.

First of all:

The big-ass 50gp dog is called Cullen, and is still back in Red Oak. Talin knows him, but you didn't make him yours.

Fido is the middle option. He's the one who totally destroyed Barkeep Moseley's door, that time when his ugly daughter was chasing after Talin in the pantry. You owe Moseley 20gp for him. Did you pay yet?

The 'runt' is free and is called...? Doesn't matter, I guess.

Are you OK with how the dog thing worked out? I like the link to the bartender.

Also -

I think I'm gonna relocate this historically forward by about 300 years. This doesn't really matter to you much...except Kilian has been hearing a few rumors about some dwarves up in Great Locke, who have been messing around with a way to make blackpowder explode and fire projectiles out of some kind of metal tube.

It's probably nothing, just crazy dwarves messing around like they do...

Dog is great! He's fun, personable, and doesn't demand a share of treasure.

The black powder sounds crazy. Projectiles from a tube, like a blowgun? I hope MU can equip them. :)

The rumor was that Karl One-Eye wasn't always called by that name.

He was mucking around one day trying to figure out how to make ordinary "mining powder" more condensed to make it easier to transport, and so it wouldn't go moldy when it got wet.

Normally it requires a large amount of "mining powder" to make a pretty small explosion, so it isn't much use in warfare and the dwarves use ballistas and the like in preference.

Then, he mixed it up with something - who knows what? and set it alight and...

bye bye, eye.

Since then, Karl and some other engineers have been trying to work out how to put the new improved "blackpowder" to use. The metal tube thing is just one idea.
