Damn. If I wasn't so deep in Undermountain I'd be all over this. Good luck!

I'm up for trying it out. It sounds like a pbe version of a CRPG.

Awesome.

I'll need to do some work and get back to you. Maybe Monday or so. I'll sound out the admins about ow to start a new game forum.

Steve Longman.

Woe - this is going to be a bit longer. Solo has not got back to me yet about setting the forum up.

In the meantime you can work on characters if you want.

Stats line 1, 5, 8 and 11 from the quick character generation guide.

You start with 0 exp.

Rules:

Races - I have humans (95%) and dwarves from the north, elves from the west, both in small numbers.

Classes -

I am using Fighter, Thief, Ranger, and Scout as they are found in the core rules and those two supplements. No other martial classes at this point.

If you want to be a magic user you need to be elvish, and your spells known to start will be:

Floating Disc, Shield, and Animation

(Animation is a spell I am working on allowing you to make small objects come to life at your command. It is the same as Animate Rope from 3.5. More powerful versions become available at higher levels.)

You do not need to memorize spells. You can cast 1 1st level spell, plus your intelligence bonus. (It works a bit like the Sorcerer supplement.)

I am not using clerics. If you want to be a healer, you will need to be a druid. This will mean you are a pagan, and the church might not like you, but that will not come into the game much. Use the druid supplement.

You can also be a diviner, someone with a magic lineage. This is someone who rolls up their character as a cleric but without turn undead, and who doesn't know what their spells are, or when they are going to be cast. I will send you information about what your diviner discovers as you go along, in dreams or flashes of inspiration.

Hopefully we can set up the game properly in the next few days.

Steve.

Although I'm not playing in it I'm going to be watching your game. I just love this idea. Good luck Steve!

I'll start on character generation. For the stats, can I swap the attributes around or are they in strict order?

You can swap them around.

Other stuff:

You do not have any magic items to start with. Also you will be in wilderness exploring, so I will be looking up some endurance rules about wearing heavy armor long term. You could carry it, for when it is needed.

I would prefer fighter / scout ranger / thief characters to be in the great majority.

A spellcaster in this game should be rare. If you want one, take the elf-mage, the diviner or maybe a druid/ pagan.

Don't worry too much about the lack of healing options. You can heal naturally...with any luck.

BTW - Solo contacted me today and the game should be up and running in a few days.

Cheers,

How is: dwarf fighter, elven MU, human diviner, human ranger?

That's OK.

If you don't mind, equip the human diviner with fighter-like weapons and armor - there are no restrictions on that for him or her. Also, a high CON would help for that character.

He or she is of some kind of lineage which claims descent from a family that used to be nobility, when Boldenwald was under human control.

You might find the divining nature doesn't come into play that frequently, and also, unpredictably.

If that's not OK, take a human fighter instead.

Looking forward to seeing what you have done.

I will post more here later, if Solomoriah hasn't set up the proper forum yet.
