On the map, it's not clear what is east of the mountains. Is that known? Is it a civilized area -- assuming no other issues, could someone traverse west to east and resupply on the other side of the mountains?

Good question...

Boldenwald is vast.

The area you are exploring is a small tableland between human territory (this side of the small greenish hills) and, the area on the other side of the big mountains.

It's all Boldenwald. The bit you are starting in, before the Mundine Mountains, is a kind of 'Boldenwald Lite' bit.

If you go past there you can expect a lot more humanoids, and monsters generally.

(So in dungeon terms, this side of the big mountains is an easier level.)

I was a bit worried about Tiana's viability given no zap-zap, laser pistols, and general spell selection. Just wanted to say that I was completely unfounded. The animate spell has been useful a few ways as I'm counting the dagger crit as a viable blanket entanglement, and the disc definitely helped out crossing the river. Pretty cool!

OK, so you are reading that encounter as trapping the thing with a blanket, and then stepping on it? Fine by me.

If you want to go for another pass at this, maybe you should stock up on some items in town - weighted chains, weighted nets, etc. That way you will always have something to hand.

Yep but lets RP it. Secretly, Tiana is amazed as well. She had only used to fetch musty tomes off of high shelves in the library. She is now brainstorming a lot of ideas, everything from weighted nets to pullies and counterweights.

Somewhat related, Talin has decided he is going to bring his guard dog out in the next trip. It is primarily for flavor and backstory. I do have to buy the dog though. I don't recall seeing it in the manual.

You have a big-ass forest dog that you could take but you'd have to buy it off the Red Oak rangers. Their leader (Emlin) wouldn't like you taking one of their best dogs into danger without some sort of remuneration. I'm talking 20gp. It is pretty well trained.

Or you could have a single HD dog for free and say it was a pet. It is not so well-trained and tends to bark when panicked.

rethought the price on that bigger dog. I'll say 50gp. If you want a middle option let me know.

Takin pointedly reminds the all-mighty GM that he is a Red Oak ranger and as such, shouldn't need to buy a dog like some petty merchant. He has his own companion which he has raised from birth (milk-fed off wolves milk) and trained it to respond to telepathic requests (ok, just well trained). He just needs to first reimburse the innkeeper 20gp for that one time (Fido) accidentally destroyed the stores door trying to save Talin from a rendezvous with the innkeeper's daughter.

Fido was always the runt of the litter...

d20SRD has a guard dog at 25gp and a riding dog (big-ass forest dog) is 150gp. I might be ripping you off at 50gp.

The all mighty GM reminds Talin that even though he is a ranger and knows the really big ass hunting dog well and has a bond with it, technically it isn't his, so he'd have to pay for it. 50gp. And I won't go a cent higher!

He can have runt Fido for free, or a dog that he actually owns, for 20gp.

This middle-option dog is somewhat well trained although it will only go into combat at a last resort. It will help a bit with tracking, and, it is cute and smells better than Kilian.
