LOL!!! Alrighty then Mae and Hermia will be departing on their own.

With things packed and the ponies mounted our two diminutive ladies head off for a couple of days of easy riding and some fresh air. The hours pass with almost no notice to the duo as they enjoy the countryside and the smells of fresh grass instead of dank dungeon. Both of them feel the kinks work out of shoulders and arms as the sunshine warms them to the core. Soon they arrive at the sight the stable boy mentioned and looking around they can see the tumbled remains of an old keep. Stones lay here and there as if tossed by a careless giant. Some of them bare the marks of ancient fire and cracks where massive stones thrown from siege engines impacted. An oft used fire pit near the summit shows that others have camped here recently. Down the slope there is a crystal clear pond fed by a meandering creek. Fish can be seen jumping at insects while frogs chorus a melody. In the distance can be heard the impacts of axes as woodsmen clear deadfall and stack it for the cook fires and fireplaces.

[Well, Hyway, let's ask Hermia what she thinks about that rating tag. For Sheena Peryroyal's sake, mysterious-Big-Person-holding-the-puppet-strings-attached-to-Oypeen, get your mind out of the gutter. Nothing like that! (Mae could not be reached for comment, as she kind of went blushy and stammery when she realized what you were insinuating.) *nods and hides behind Rachel*]

The halflings spend a pleasant afternoon picnicking, then get around to engaging in their most singular passion... Mapmaking! They set about exploring the remains of the old keep, attempting to reconstruct the plans of at least the grounds and first floor.

The two cartographers get to work. A few hours into it and they have what they feel is an accurate map of the ground floor. In looking at it the keep seems compact, not as broad and open as most. As the afternoon wears on Mae, pacing off an outbuilding, finds the edge of a worked stone sticking up out of the turf. Nothing unusual about it other than the square holes with remnants of rust in the. Doing some digging she unearths the crest stone for the keep. On the face is a brass family crest, the metal was well made and treated to resist wear and so shows an earthen mound upon its left upper side with a meandering trail bisecting the crest. At the lower right is the image of a halfling in plate armour backed by a pacing pony.

Both ladies realize that this is the ruins of a halfling keep. No wonder the stable boy wanted them to spend a day here.

No almost full dark the halflings prepare a camp in a place that was built by their ancestors.
