Mae dusts off the chest and inspects it for traps.

Mae how much of the chest do you wish to uncover. Getting just the lid revealed shows the chest to be 4' long and 3' wide. With only the lid uncovered (not the lock as it's farther down) you detect no traps.

At least down to the lock and hinges. Preferably all the way.

Mae begins the excavation of the chest running her hands carefully down each side and clearing the sand as she goes. She can almost see the lock and hinges and horribly realizes that she missed something as her right hand encounters, and breaks, a thin filament of some sort. As the thread breaks there is an almost silent *ting* from somewhere beneath the sand.

In the far corner (north west) something stirs in the sand, something large. The sand bulges a bit as the creature moves. Then becomes still as if waiting.

Ravoneth drops into a fighting stance next to Mae then freezes, ready to strike at the creature if it becomes hostile.

Oypeen is carrousing on solid ground and singsonging "Oooh yeah. Take it off. Take it all off, baby." when he suddenly clams up and immediately has his bow up and arrow notched. He aims at the bulge in the sand and holds to see what happens next.
