Ravoneth thanks the ranger for all the help he has been getting her to Waterdeep, then heads down to the main gate. Realizing she doesn't know how to find Brother James in such a place, she will head to the temple of Helm to start.

Walking through the main entrance of the city our adept is momentarily stunned at the amount of people crowded inside. There are people everywhere. Ravoneth does notice that the city is well kept and relatively clean. Whatever caste system is in place here seems to work well as there are very very few beggars on the street. On some corners public servants announce the latest news for those that cannot read while a stack of locally printed papers lays at their feet for those that can. The city guard is intentionally visible as they walk in pairs or small groups. One such group of two approaches Ravoneth and the older of the pair, a grey haired man of probably 50 speaks up New to the City of Splendors are you? Yes I gathered as much, you have the same look of wonder that counrty folk get when they come here for the first time. How can we help you stranger? Temple of Helm you say... hmmm that's easy enough. Instead of giving a complex set of instructions he sends his companion over to one of the public servants for a map of the area. Handing it to Ravoneth he indicates with a marking pencil where they are now located and then the temple. Tis fortunate that you are educated enough to read young one or this would have been much harder on both of us. Enjoy the city but keep a hand close to your money pouch, there are miscreants within that like to prey on the newly arrived. With that they turn and continue their patrol route.

With a quick look at the map Ravoneth is on her way towards Helms Hold and the clergy within. Walking down the street she is suddenly bumped by a man in beggars clothes as he stumbles across her path. Smelling of wine and sweat he mumbles an apology and begins to move off when something drops from his hand. Looking down Ravoneth is rather surprised to see her own fletchers kit and a couple of gold coins laying in the street where the would be thief fumbled putting his prize into his own shirt. His attempted theft revealed he pulls a dagger from his belt and threatens with it.Don't want no trouble with you young miss. His voice is clear and unclouded by drink, his eyes do not have the blurred look of one who spends time with a bottle in his hands.

Ravoneth puts her foot on the Fletcher's kit and calmly looks at the thief. "A rat should not play with the tail of a cat." instructs Ravoneth. "This ends only when you repent. Will you return the sack or shall we start instruction?"

Ravoneth acts first stepping lightly on her belongings and advising the thief against further misdeed. In response the dagger flashes forward *slash-cut*! A thin line is cut along the adepts forearm.

In response to the brazen attack by the thief Ravoneth draws her two handed sword and strikes back. *swish-thud*! The thief staggers under the impact and, dropping his dagger, turns to flee holding the ragged wound in his chest closed as best he can.

Ravoneth will now attempt to tackle/wrestle the thief, calling for the guards.

I didn't see anything in the rules about drawing/sheathing weapons or attacks of opportunity. Are there house rules to that effect?

(The core rules say something to the effect of you getting a +2 "parting shot" if you have a readied weapon. Do you wish to attempt an unmodified tackle or a +2 sword strike?)

I'm not sure how initiative plays out in this. If he moves first, I'd get a parting shot with the sword; and if I move first, I'd get an unarmed strike to wrestle and then a second shot if he flees. Right?

You struck on your initiative causing the damage, he is fleeing on his initiative. Hmmm in rereading the core rules you have the option of either taking your parting shot with the sword already in hand or letting him run off. Initiative next round can start the chase and attempted grapple if you can catch him.
