Brother Michael didn't say anything about errands needing done? Or he demurred?

If the temple doesn't need any floors swept or missives delivered, Ravoneth will ask for directions to the Yawning Portal, and then head there. I'm guessing it is still early in the day?

No errands to do and they wouldn't impose upon a guest even if there were.

It is now just before dinner time and the smell of cooking meats and veggies are on the air. Brother Michael escorts Ravoneth into Helms Hold. No reason to miss a meal there adept. One often doesn't know when he or she might have a filling meal so take one when offered. You'd be better to find the inn in the morning, tonight it'll be filled with drinking merry makers and youngsters too full of drink and bravado. In the morning after we break fast and pray I'll gladly walk with you to the inn if you wish.

"Again, I thank you for your advice, Brother Michael." Ravoneth follows into the temple.

Sounds like an exciting night of Vespers, dinner, Compline, arms training, and finishing up the day with a rousing Mattins!

The evening meal begins with prayers to Helm asking for strength of arm and fortitude, courage when all about is chaos and the vision to see the clear path. Ravoneth is surprised to see that Brother Michael leads the prayers, it is not often that one meets the head of a temple at the front steps. His deep baritone voice carries throughout the hall and seems to reverberate into the very stone of the temple. As a closing he intones Brothers and sisters we have this night a guest among us. One who shares our love and devotion of strength of arm and singular focus of training. Her name is Ravoneth and I bid you all welcome her into Helms Hold and grant her the serenity of untroubled sleep, the rest of the righteous, and the waking clarity of one that knows the path before her. He indicates where the half elf sits and other members stand and offer hands in greeting and words of faith. Ravoneth soon notices that almost to a man (or woman) they are all massively built with large forearms and shoulders, thick solid legs and hands that are both calloused and kind.

As the greetings subside and the devotees take seats Brother Michael continues at a low rumble Strength of arm.
The others reply The arm of Helm.
Brother Michael Strength of spirit.
The others reply The spirit of Helm.
Brother Michael Strength through compassion.
The others reply The compassion of Helm.
Brother Michael Hope that one day we need not the armor and steel and muscle to fight the evils. That one day all are of a goodly sort.
The others reply It is the hope of Helm.
As way of an "amen" the gathered members intone "strength and steel" and the meal begins.

The meal is not a subdued affair as it is in most temples. The group is vocal and boisterous. Challenges for the mornings training are boasted and accepted. All of them eat as if it may be the last meal they'll have. Meat is consumed in massive quantities along with tankards of ice cold water drawn from a well within the kitchens. Ravoneth is offered a steaming pile of vegetables grown in the garden out behind the temple consisting of honey baked squash, grill fired zucchini, oven roasted peppers with scalloped onions in a light butter sauce and fresh spinach and kale tossed into a light but filling salad topped with an oil and vinegar dressing.

After the meal everyone helps to clean up. As Ravoneth moves to help Brother Michael lightly grasps her arm and leads her away from the dining area.Tonight you do not help with the cleaning. You are a guest here and as such your first night you are treated. I'll lead you to your room and point out the bathing area, ah..... we don't stand on male and female embarrassment here so our bathing area is communal. You'll have about an hour to yourself before the others come in so there is plenty of time to bathe and retire to your room. Stopping in the hallway he points to a doorway. There is your room, there are no locks as we have no need of them. At the end of this hall you'll find the heated room for bathing. Towels are available. I bid thee goodnight adept. On the morrow we shall break fast and if you wish we shall train. Afterwards I'll take you to the Yawning Portal. With that he turns and leaves.

The following morning Ravoneth wakes and after her morning meditations heads to the dinning area for breakfast. Having eaten she is allowed to help with clean up before heading out to the training area. The training she sees is far different that what she is used to watching. The acolytes of Helm train as if for battle. They wear armor that is far heavier than any traditional steel that would be worn in combat. Thick plates of metal cover torso and legs, swords twice as thick and blunted so as not to cause injury are wielded with grunts and strains as muscles are taxed to their limit.

Brother Micheal arrives and explains. Traditional plate armor weighs in at about 50 pounds. Our training plate is over twice that, the same with the training swords. You train a warrior wearing 120 pounds of plate and swinging a 30 pound two handed sword so that when it comes time for combat and he's wearing 50 pound plate and swinging a 10 pound sword he is much much faster and able to fight longer. Of course it does not account for skill of arm so once they have reached the appropriate level of competence they are out fitted with normal weight arms and armor. He points to a smaller group wearing battle armor and wielding normal swords. These men and women are stunningly quick in the heavy metal and are able to thrust, parry, reposte and strike with great speed and accuracy. Those are our recent graduates. They will stay here for another three years before we release them to go on a Walking. They will do so for a period of two years and then return for testing. Let me know if you want to attempt any of the training. If not we'll head into the city proper and find the inn.

"Yes, I would appreciate the opportunity to train with your warriors. I will opt out of the armor as my training emphasizes avoiding the blow, not standing and taking it with thicker armor." She says that with a small smile. She has no preference as to the weapons used, and will take a heavy, blunted one herself.

The morning training goes well and Ravoneth is happy to have only received a few slight bruises from glancing blows considering the ability of those she faced when using weapons that they are more familiar with. She does land a few well placed blows of her own that are absorbed by the heavy armor of her opponent. Afterwards she is allowed to clean up and gather her belongings before Brother Michael leads her into the city. New sights and sounds abound and there is the smell of fresh food wafting in from an open air market. Brother Michael stops at one shop and purchases two small loaves of hot black bread and hands one to the adept.

Onward they travel for a several blocks before stopping in front of a massive set of oak doors, now open and with the sound of a business getting started up for the mid morning rush. Above the door can be seen a sign The Yawning Portal. Placards placed on the large bare wall to the left of the doors announce the need for hired fighting men for caravan duties, body guards for the recently rich and wanted posters for the recently poor or villainous.

There is your destination Ravoneth. The proprietors name is Durnan. You'll find the large man behind the bar probably polishing the heavy quartz bar top that he loves so much. He is as good a man as can be found in this city. I bid thee farewell and ask that you stop back by on your way back to the refuge if you have time.

(In regards to the timeline you are currently there in the morning after the altercation that the others have just gotten into. Once we have them up and about this morning we'll continue with you entering the inn. Hope you don't mind the wait.)

Ravoneth thanks Brother Michael for all the aid he has provided, and assures him that she will stop by the temple if she can. She scans the room a bit, trying to take in the variety of characters present. She'll spot the bouncers/guards if she can as well as anyone looking to work the crowd. If possible, she'll take a seat against the wall, order a potato stew, and wait for Durnan to be freed up from his customers' demands.

There! Now she has a reason to wait and something to do in the meantime. :)

Ravoneth is offered a generous portion of stew and bread to match. She is also given a tankard of clear spring water that is cold enough to hurt the teeth. While watching the crowd she sees multiple hardened fighters, a few seasoned clerics and an occasional mage or two. Most of the more hardened are quiet and unassuming. Mixed in are the young bravado full of themselves and drink (even at this early hour) they swagger from table to table and boast of deeds undone. Within all of it are the barmaids and bouncers. Calm to a fault the bouncers are ready to stop any issue before it hurts business and right behind them are the barmaids ready to soothe bruised egos with a flirt and a drink. At some point in her meal a large man, bearded and wearing leather bracers approaches. Ah another adept, I am Durnan owner and proprietor of the Yawning Portal in which you dine. Perhaps I can point you to the employ of an adventuring group as well. Adept James was keen on getting below and I assume you are as well. Much wealth to be had for your poor refuge in such dire need waits below.

"Thank you Master Durnan. I am here to find Brother James. To know the road ahead, ask those coming back. I would like to know more about when you saw him last and whether he went down alone or with others."

(once the James discussion is over)

"Adventuring group?" she says with a smile. "That may be wise actually. There is safety in numbers. Yes, Master Durcan. How does one go about selecting an adventuring group?"
