"A pleasure to meet you, Mae", replies Rykken.
The problem with doing something really stupid to impress people is that they may just be impressed by how stupid you really are.

Opyeen and Quistine arrive back at the tavern and spot their companions at a table near the center of the room. Hermia and Rykken are chatting with an unfamiliar halfling. They get to the table at about the same time as Durnan stops by to drop off three platters of fried fish. Glad you look to be feeling better Rykken. You looked like death itself when you walked in here a few hours ago. comments Durnan before heading back behind the bar.

Giovanni is too distracted by the sights and smells of fresh fish and chips. He sits down and says a quick blessing over his plate before shoveling the food into his mouth. He nods approvingly at the taste and gives Durnan a quick thumbs up since his mouth is full. He finishes it off with gusto before taking a large drink of wine from his goblet. A large burp exits his mouth, causing those around him to chuckle..

Thatsa compliments to the chef as my old papa used to say...

He then stretches back and leans against the wall, letting his hands rest on his full belly.

"I am feeling much better, thanks, Durnan", nods Rykken as Durnan slides a large plate in front of him. He digs into the food without hesitation but Durnan's comment keeps gnawing at his mind. As soon as he is finished his meal he excuses himself and heads back to ole' Prydwyn's place. He will ask him what he knows about a beholder's key and Hlethvagi and will recount his experience with Jysteen.

It seems the gar is a hit as the aroma draws more and more customers into the tavern. The fried food has the added benefit of making patrons thirsty and soon the bar staff is hustling to keep up with drink orders. For his part Durnan proudly stands behind the quartz bar top smiling and the gold and silver pours in.

During the influx of hungry diners one patron dodges bodies and heads outside. Rykken strides determinedly to his mentors house and knocks upon the door. Once again he us greeted by Prydwyn and seated in the sitting room. The old man listens to the younger ones tale completely before responding. Hlethvagi? Yes I know of him. Oh he's a true beholder alright although last time I heard about him he was still a little one. Not more than five feet across and only two eyestalks. Hehe he's still dangerous though not nearly as bad as an Eye Tyrant. He gets thoughtful for a second. This businesse about Jysteen is disturbing. Its late enough now that I don't want to head over there and confront her. An angry drow is one thing. An angry drow in the dark is something else. We can go see her in the morning if you have time, hmmm you might bring a friend or two just in case.

While Hermia and Mae continue to talk Giovanni has time to take in his surroundings. Scanning the crowd from beneath eyelids heavy with food induced drowsiness he notices that between mouthfuls if food several of the patrons are gesturing towards the CoS and whispering to their own companions. Looks like the little group has gained a small measure of fame.

As Giovanni sees everyone whispering amongst themselves he snorts with laughter as he realizes he has yet to ask for any divine favor from his God. He then gets somber and hopes he never has to..

Mae is truly entranced by the companions and turns to Hermia.
Would you like to see my maps? Before Hermia can say yes or no Mae reaches to her pack and pulls out a good sized scroll tube that was tied beneath her sword. Stopping a passing barmaid she borrows a towel and dries the table before pulling probably 20 maps from the case. Written on everything from fine velum to parchment and even a palm leaf the maps are placed on the table.
I bought this one from a traveling merchant from a city of sand. She indicates the palm leaf.
This one is a complete map of the city of Waterdeep. It took me months to complete it. This one is on parchment and treated with a waxy substance.
The next is a well worn map on fine paper, stained from countless fingers it shows several homes and farms. This one is my home village and my first map. Nothing ever happens there and if I'd have stayed I'd have been a farmer. Ha! No dirt under these hands thank you unless I'm digging for treasure. A brief look of longing or loss passes over her face before she reaches for another.

"Oh! Wow! Mine are with my pony over in the stables, I'll show you in a bit," Hermia says, poring over the maps.
