Standing near the rear of the group and at the edges of the room Giovanni hears a *scritch scritch* coming from the hallway behind him. Turning slowly he sees a large black rat clicking along towards the rear of the group. Upon being noticed the rat stops and begins cleaning its face in that cute marsupial way rats do. With its face and little paws clean it plants its butt on the floor and watches. Either by trick of torch light or something else there is a fast glint of green from its eyes as it looks at the Cleric. Whiskers twitching it simply waits and watches.

I turn away from the rat as nonchalantly as I can and speak in a very casual tone...
"I thinka we are being watched, there is a large rat behind me that looks a bit smarter than your average rat."

(Let's see if we can just scare it off first. If not, then it's clearly not under its own control and then maybe worth killing. Oh! Or detect magic on it, see if it's been enchanted in some way.)

(Actions against the rat? Anyone planning on searching the room?)

Quistine will cast Detect Magic and scan the rat as inconspicuously as possible.

Oypeen will wait to take any action while others deal with the rat. He will keep a close eye on the room to make sure nothing moves in there. He will search the debris (with his eyes

) for something "tool like" thats out in the open and away from the party so that he can use the cantrip "animate tool" to set it tapping on the floor in hopes of drawing out whatever is in their waiting to kill us.

Quistine subtly casts Detect Magic observing the rat down the hall. Neither the rat nor its surroundings indicate any magic.
While that is going on Opyeen scans the area directly in front of him looking for something. Not finding an object that will work he reaches into his pack for the dragon scale and the spear point lodged in it. With a twist and pull he removes the spear point and after replacing the dragon scale in his pack he casts a quick Animate Tool. The now animated spear begins tapping on the floor in an attempt to draw out any waiting beasts from within the room. When nothing charges out to meet them Opyeen is free to have the spear point tap at the entire room. In so doing it is revealed that two stones side by side in the far north eastern corner sound hollow. The rest of the floor, walls and ceiling sounds solid when tapped upon.

Oypeen will visually inspect the ceiling for anything hanging out up there like spiders, mold, murder holes, etc
Then he will wait till the others finish with the rat and are ready to deal with this room.
