A few uttered syllables and a couple gestures and Rykken Knocks the lock open.
Although heavy, the grate has several places where the companions can grab hold and lift it up and to one side. Revealed is a stone lined hole with iron rungs leading down into the darkness. One look at the rungs and it is apparent that they will probably not support much weight.
While the CoS is debating on who gets to go first there comes a shout from behind them. Glancing back they see a glowing translucent figure in full plate armor, naked longsword in the right hand and large sheild on the left, he opens his mouth in a silent scream as he charges.

"Defend yourself, but let's not attack it. I had a grandmother who was ghost-wise, maybe we can negotiate it into moving on and get this thing done even faster."

Oypeen, not normally a praying man is praying that the clergyman was right about this thing not hurting anyone. He then steps forward and raises his hands, palms outward in a show of being disarmed and calls out, "Sir Knight. We are here to help Ms. Dhree find her way home. We are not your enemy."
Not knowing if that will do any good, Oypeen stands there as still as stone waiting for whatever happens.

As the ghost gets within striking distance there is a brief flicker and the companions can clearly see the standard upon the shield. A crescent moon with the horns pointed downwards and four stars running diagonally across. As slashing attack hides the standard as a spectral sword cuts the air.
Opyeen stands unmoving as the blade passes through his torso. Moving right he deftly stabs Hermia in the eye. A quick shift of his feet and Sturm receives a crushing shield bash to his armored chest. Turning once again and holding his sword at arms length he slices into Rykken and Lianna with a blistering back hand. In the space of one round he scores hits on each member of the group before falling into the now open shaft. His longsword flies from his hand to hang suspended in the air, blade pointing downwards, before fading from view.
A quick pat down reveals that none of the attacks did any damage.

Lianna visibly flinches several seconds after being hit.
"Woah"
After regaining her composure she takes a look down where the knight fell. If it is too dark she turns and says "Rykken, Oypeen, do either of you have a light spell available? I have an idea."

Hermia sheepishly rubs the "exit wound" and looks at the ground.

oypen exhales loudly, damn, but that was terrifying.
He'll look down the hole in the ground and say, "I have no light spell, but we could lower a lantern"

"Either way works, I just want to get a visual on what where lowering ourselves into."
Lianna will quickly look around for an area to secure a few ropes.
((Two for us and one for a light. Sounds good?))
