You are correct in your description.
The rat does know you're there but is obviously unconcerned. The goblin however is oblivious and intently engrossed in what ever its doing.

Yes, yes hard fought battle.. Shes says rather absentmindedly. Now what did you call that thing, Hermia? A Portal Beast? I wonder if any more of them are lurking about.
"I don't know if that's what it's called. I don't think I've even read about something like that before. But the term certainly applies! Hey, maybe we should take it up to the surface... I bet an unusual creature like that would be worth something to a sage interested in monsters."
Hermia crosses over to where Sturm is catching his breath and offers her some trail mix out of her rations to go with his hardtack.
"You okay, big guy?"

Sturm smiles up at Hermia and replies Just a little tired is all..
He grabs a handful of her trail mix and pops it in his mouth, chewing loudly, before standing back up..
Looks like that Ale is going to have to wait then hmmmm?

((Can Lianna also see the goblin from the pillar room or is it too dark?))
If its not too dark, and if no-one is in disagreement then I think I want to have Lianna try and sneak up on the goblin and try and capture him. Maybe he can serve as a guide while we're down here. If anything he can tell us what he is so fascinated with.

(If you think capturing it might prove difficult, I was thinking of casting another charm person on it since it just popped up inside my head at the same time I suddenly felt like I could take more damage

It would also keep us from stepping into the obvious trap set with goblin bait.)

(OOC - There's no way a goblin would not have seen and heard us. I think that is a set-up.)
I take some rations / food from my backpack, the tastiest morsel I can find, and then lob it into the hallway, towards the rat. I whisper at it:
Here, Ebeneezer. That will help you grow back your tail.

Oypeen keeps a close watch on the goblin to see if he reacts after Quander throws the food.

People - I have speak with animals on a scroll. If this is actually a rat - which I kinda doubt - I could ask it what goes on in the room. What do you think?

((I know that he threw it to the rat. I have a suspicion that the rat and the goblin are linked somehow. That maybe the rat and/or the goblin are some kind of mirror image of each other or maybe they are trapped within the mirrors and their image is cast into the hallways. Maybe even the gold coin is the portal that transports you into a mirror since the gold is on the floor and both the rat and the goblin are looking at the floor. Lot of suspicions in this post. Maybe I am just to suspicious and thats just a rat and a goblin sitting in a passage paying us no mind.))
