After a quick reconnaissance of the area, you find an acceptable camping spot a little ways off the trail.

After an uneventful night you wake rested and refreshed and strike off to the east, following the worn trail.

After following the trail for several hours you catch sight of a mound surrounded by bare gray rocks. At first it appears that all that remains are several free-standing walls overgrown with vines, a few columns, a broken set of ascending stairs, and heaps of rubble. As you approach the mound though you discover trails leading in and out of the rubble, going north, south, and east. They all seem to converge on a large opening in the center of what seems to have once been a large building. Here, there is a black hole in the earth with stairs leading down into darkness.
The problem with doing something really stupid to impress people is that they may just be impressed by how stupid you really are.

(Shall we just go straight down the hole to hell or circle around and look for a backdoor?)

Agreed, a less traveled entrance would be better to take.

Mumford peers into the darkness, fighting the urge to run away.

OOC: Does the 'entrance' look well used?

Yes, the trails are all significantly worn and the entrance appears to be very well used.

I think we should look around the side of the rocks.

Pebbles stays well out of sight of the hole in the ground in case they have anyone watching the entrance. He will scout around the edges looking for other tracks that might lead to an alternative entrance.

Boldol mostly stands still and out of sight while everyone scouts around. His chainmail is too chinkly and noisy for investigating. His dagger and shield are both at the ready.
