Pebbles asks Eryl if he trusts Kerrywyn so that we can get Kerrywyn to buy some fish or produce from Gwion. He tells Eryl that the plan is when Gwion is in the tavern making his delivery we talk about our plans to send a scout out to set up a stakeout of the river crossing to watch for raiding bandits.

“Blast it! So Gwion’s the leak.” Eryl shakes his head in disgust.

“Hmmmm…” he mulls over your plan for a few minutes and then locks his gaze on you. “I think your plan is sound but I think we should keep it to ourselves. It’s not that I don’t trust Kerrywyn but the less people that know the better. Gwion comes in a couple of times a week delivering goods so that shouldn’t be a problem at all. I believe tomorrow is a delivery day so I suggest you hang around tomorrow and drop the bait.”

OOC: I'll try and break this down into sizeable chunks. We'll play out baiting the trap first and then move on from there.

Early the next morning you assemble at the tavern where Kerrywyn greets you with a cheery "Hello”. As you suspected Gwion comes in shortly afterwards with his delivery.

OOC:About a mile north of town there is a 'craggy ridge'. The river runs wider and shallower along the far side of the ridge and is likely where Gritznak and his forces ford the river.

There are no horses for sale in town but some particularly persuasive dialogue by Mumford (Charisma Check:[1d20+1] = 18+1 = 19) gains you the loan of a horse from one of the local farmers.

I figured I'd let you role-play the baiting phase unless you just want me to fast-forward to the stakeout.

As Gwion trundles his supplies in to the tavern you pretend to be intently discussing strategy. From the corner of your eyes you notice he is taking more than a casual interest in your conference although he is doing his best to hide it. You ‘accidently’ let slip the pertinent parts of your ‘plan’ as Gwion is within earshot.

Having baited the trap, Pebbles tails Gwion, and reports back that as soon as Gwion had finished his deliveries he abruptly left town, heading in roughly the same direction as he had the other night.

With the bait seemingly taken, you proceed to the next part of the plan.

OOC: Before you head out of town does anyone want/need to stock up on any supplies? Were you planning on taking some militia with you?

I think we should leave the militia here. It didn't sound like they'd be very useful in a fight, and I'm not sure how well they'd be in a stakeout.

One militia person would be great bait. And leave more people at a safe distance to range. But I am fine with going without the militia member. I'm ready to go check out the site and set up for a bit of a wait so bring your rations :)
