"Hey guys, I'm going to go peek into the cave. Invisible, of course. Okay?"

Elena looks a little bit nervous about the idea, almost like she's hoping that someone else will convince her it's a good idea.

Marcus looks up. "Just remember that bears have a good sense of smell."

Thinking better of the scouting idea, Elena will help with the brush gathering too.

Being located as you are on the edge of an orchard, gathering materials for a fire is straightforward. Within half an hour, the three of you have accumulated a good pile.

We need to put it into the cave, so the smoke heads into the cave instead of up into the air. We should put the brush on top so we get a lot of smoke. Does lantern oil smoke? Also, let's check for a breeze.

Does lantern oil smoke?

A bit, obviously, but not significantly ... not enough to smoke something out.

It's a bright, warm autumn day with just the merest hint of a breeze.

"Ok, now let's figure out where we'll be once the smokes starts. Filibert, did you find any safe places for us to wait?"

I'm not sure yet. Joe?

Also, is the fire smoky enough? Marcus heard something about adding green wood to make more smoke. Of course, he's never tried it himself.

Blazeguard wrote:"The smoking out idea sounds good" Filibert says. He will start collecting wood and other flammable materials. He will also check to see if there are any trees or other elevated areas that would serve as a safe platform to attack from.
(Sorry, missed that  )

Filibert can see two options for gaining some height. Certainly there are plenty of apple trees on the edge of the orchard, not too far from the cave entrance. They are not particularly tall but would be easy to climb.

The other option would be to climb the craggy ridge in which the cave is set so that you would be directly above the cave entrance. That's a much more difficult looking climb though.
