Campaign Background

Post by JoeCarr28 »

A good starting point for general campaign background is the "Sartar Player's Primer" from Issaries. This is available as a free download from DriveThruRPG.com. Although designed for the HeroQuest role-playing game, it provides an overview of Glorantha (the world) and Sartar (the region) in which Apple Lane is located.

Apple Lane

Post by JoeCarr28 »

The village of Apple Lane is a typically nondescript gathering of buildings common to borderland territories. Several days ride from the nearest large city, it sits astride a well-used road. Travellers, from whom the settlement gets the larger share of its trade, are happy to stop at this rustic outpost; farmers from the surrounding hills enjoy its nearly-citified comforts. Authority in the region is entrusted to Apple Lane's Sheriff, although there are no other security forces. Apple orchards, from which the town draws its name, surround the buildings on every side.

The village consists of the following buildings (see map above):

Sheruff's House. Home to "Sheruff" Dronlan Swordsharp and his wife Oolina. A stone cubicle attached to the back of the house serves as the jail.

Barn. Belonging to the Sheruff.

Uleria's Temple. Uleria is the Goddess of Love. Avareen is the elder priestess.

Weaponmasters' Hall. This building incorporates a small armoury (with shop) and a practice room. Jarsten Goodaxe and Navarok One-Hand provide training.

Tin Inn. Run by Bulster the Brewer and his wife Bertha. The Tin Inn is a well-established roadhouse on a frequently-travelled route, and almost always has visitors. It is the only tavern for a day's journey beyond. Outlying farmers normally congregate at the Inn.

Temple to all Deities. Kareena is the caretaker of this temple-for-hire.

Horsemasters' Hall. Husband and wife team Lipiccus and Varaneera teach riding skills. They also breed, train and sell horses.

Stable. Belonging to the Horsemasters.

Storehouse. Here Squinch sells tools, foodstuffs, liquor, seeds, cloth, blank parchment and paper, and just about any other common trade goods which he thinks he call sell to the villagers, travellers or farmers.

Gringle's Pawnshop. Home to Gringle, Apple Lane's pawnbroker, and his duck-servant Quackjohn.

Smithy. Piku Gastapakis makes tools, weapons and armour.

Piku's House. The resisdence of Piku, his wife Valeeda, and their two children Wakapo and Yaku.

Orchards, mainly the apples from which the village takes its name, surround the community for many kilometres, interspersed with farmhouses and pasturage. Migrants and fugitives sometimes camp in the trees. One old Trollkin sleeps regularly there and collects firewood which he sells in town each day, earning a few coppers with which he buys a meal at the Tin Inn. The Trollkin is old, half-blind in one eye, missing several teeth, and is excessively servile. His name is Shuffle.
