Yes, maybe that will be something I have to tweak. With Targus, the WIS bonus makes a big difference. I normally insist on 3d6 in order for ability scores, so an INT or WIS of 16+ will be quite rare.
If you feel Targus is top heavy I'm all for you re-rolling his stats and I'll put the numbers you assign down. I'm good either way as long as I get to play.
No, I'm happy with how things are for now. I did crunch some numbers when I first wrote the supplement, so there's nothing unexpected from my side.

So if after adventuring I end up with 1000gp does that mean I can "buy, or pay for" an additional 10 levels of spells via training or do I pick spells (I.E. Raise Dead Clr5 and Teleport MU5) and pay 500gp per spell chosen?
Actually, having given it some more thought, we'll just stick with the Magic-User spell acquisition rules in Basic Fantasy core rulebook (page 139). No point reinventing the wheel. So basically you need money, time and a teacher, and it would be done on a spell-by-spell basis rather than on a certain number of levels of magic.

I added a back-story to Marcus' character sheet if anyone's interested.

Look what the postman brought today ...

I had long since parted company with my original copy of Apple Lane, so I was delighted to pick this up on ebay for a reasonable price. It's in amazing condition considering it's well over 30 years old ...

I added Elena's backstory as well. She's not likely to win homecoming queen.

Target percentage = base melee weapons skill (46%) + STR ability bonus (0%) + Marcus's armour modifier (-25% for AC16 due to Marcus's Shield spell) = 21%. Jandolar rolls ... 91% - miss.
I'm just curious. Why is Marcus's armour modifier different for the 2 attacks?

From the description of the Shield spell ...

"It ... improves the caster's Armor Class by +3 vs. melee attacks and +6 vs. missile weapons."
