The crab black micron pen with value added in with watercolor but used as a wash. Lots of yellows and oranges to produce a light gray once it's turned to a grayscale image.

I also sometimes use Payne's Gray (watercolor) but use it as a wash.

Question for the boards: I also drew a graphite drawing but the image is 16 megabytes (I think, it's on my pc but I'm not home) after scanning it.
I tried posting it on the forums and emailing it but both attempts say it is too big an item to post/email.

Any ideas or solutions to get this image over to Solo/the team to use for Castle by the Sea? Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks for the tips! I've used diluted ink as well, though that won't give you any lifting like the watercolor will.

Here are a few easy ways to reduce file size (apologies if you already know them and I am sound like a wonk):

- Reduce the overall size of the image. Whatever program you use probably has a RESIZE option. Simply reducing a file from, say 5000 pixels wide to 2500 pixels wide will drastically cut file size. And it is not linear, shrinking it in this way will cut it down way more than half.
-If it is a pencil image, convert it to black and white. This cuts things way down too.
-Bitmaps are huge file, PNG's smaller, JPG's even smaller. For print purposes, you may want to stick with PNG's and just cut down the size of the image.
-For web posting, just use a JPG and cut down the percentage. I've shrunk maps for Roll20 down to 80% and they are still fine. However, this will affect printing.

You'd have to set up your own Dropbox, then it's just an upload to the Dropbox and share the link to the file there.

It very well may be the same type of thing as what chiisu81 had posted though...

But as someone who's just a low-level tech kinda person (I'm a social worker in real life ) it's pretty simple to use.

The only things I do on my pc is surf the web and play the occasional video game. But I have never learned to use it as the powerful work tool that it is. And if I want to be a professional illustrator one day I better learn this stuff.

A great free tool for doing all this is paint.net. It's MUCH easier to learn to use than Photoshop or Illustrator and it is free. Here's the link:

pixlr x is the photo editor and pixlr editor is their "paint" version. I use them on my Linux box so I don't have to download anything (I use Linux like Dr. Frankenstein used dead bodies.).
