Muddle recognizes his holy symbol in the jumble of stuff dumped from the sack. He immediately runs to collect it and as much of the other stuff as he can stuff into his various disguised pockets in his clothes. He'll race back to his cover if he can, but if time is up he will find the best cover he can before the door opens. He's a halfling so it shouldn't be too hard to get out of sight.

Selene grabs the keys (unless Muddle gets to them first) before hiding beside the stairs. She takes a moment to catch her breath and scan the room for any signs of her gear (or any gear for that matter).

muddle hesitates when he sees the human female scrabbling for the keys, and then drops them into her hands. He grabs the rest of the stuff and hopes he hasn't made a mistake.

Saeloria edges to the back of the rack nearest the opening while keeping an eye on the stairs.

As the door bursts open, you hear a rush of feet... (roll), which quickly slows as they descend. Apparently they suspect trouble (no surprise)

Switching to rounds.
(I'm going to go with roll then declare for initiative - it's worked well in the games I've played.)
Inititative:
Galen 9
Muddle 9
Hamish 7
"Guards" 6
Selene 5
Saeloria 4

(Apparently I should save that die - four 6s!)

The guards (you hear three sets of steps) are descending the stairs, keeping an eye out for trouble.

Being rather poorly trained in hand to hand techniques, Galen will stay somewhat hidden, preferring to catch somebody on their flanks once they pass his position (hoping that our burly warrior type will be the focus of their attention).

(ooc: so that is effectively that Galen will keep hidden and delay for an opportunity to strike from behind once they engage Hamish... otherwise he will fight whomever engages him directly).

muddle will hold his action until everyone is in teh room. He doesn't know why he was locked up, which isn't the first time he's woken up that way. Maybe these guys don't need to be killed. At any rate he wants to make sure that their isn't a small army coming down. He will stay hidden. for now.

Hamish will smack the first guard he sees. Hit first, ask questions later.

(ooc: true, but then the ones behind him only have to back up the stairs, shut the door and call for reinforcements before coming back down.)

When Muddle sees the big ugly strike to kill he figures in for a copper in for a crown and fires the crossbow at the top most guard (hoping if he is hit that he falls forward unto the other two. (not sure where I am now whether i got back under the stairs in time or hid elsewhere. Whatever the case muddle will do whatever you deem he has to do to shoot whether thats shooting from behind cover or stepping out to get the shot)

(quick note: I'm going to provide the final roll results for attacks and damage, to give you a feel for the rolls)
In order of events:
As the guards come down, you notice Tieg is in the front, followed by a fellow wearing an apron over his armor and carrying a big cleaver.
Solomoriah wrote:Hamish will smack the first guard he sees. Hit first, ask questions later.
.. at which point Hamish takes a swing at Tieg (roll:15, 6 dmg) The bar's length and balance are a bit unusual, but it barely phases Hamish as he hits the thug solidly in the knees. Tieg goes over and lands at the bottom of the stairs with a sickening 'crack' as he breaks his neck. His shortsword skitters halfway across the room.

Muddle darts out from under the stairs and ducks around Hamish to line up a bead on the rear guard (a nervous looking Snoot) (roll 15, 5 dmg), avoiding the large "chef" and putting a bolt neatly through his throat. Snoot falls forward on the chef.
Joe the Rat wrote:The guards (you hear three sets of steps) are descending the stairs, keeping an eye out for trouble.
(morale check) The remaining guard followed Tieg closely, and is mostly in view of the room. With his two friends swiftly dispatched, the chef panics and tries to get back up the stairs. He has trouble dealing with Snoot's body, and ends up trying to shove the him out of the way to get back upstairs (no other actions this round).

Feeling emboldened by the success of the large fighter and nimble redcap, Galen darts out and tries to catch the panicked chef with his club.
(Roll: 8) In his excitement, he misjudges the distance, and hits the stair.

(Actions for Selene and Saeloria?)
