The trunks are truly empty. No secret spaces are evident.

Between Selene and Saeloria, they find that each scroll case contains a single massive scroll, densly packed characters and symbols, in a variety of inks and hands. It appears to be absolute gibberish. Elvish script mixed with Dwarf runes, Draconic whorls, Goblini scrawl, Common and Archaean letters, Alchemical and Magical sigils... One thing you can tell is that this was done deliberately.

Upon hearing about the strange texts, Galen offers, "sometimes I can make sense of odd writings. Perhaps I can take a look."

OOC: perhaps Bard "Decipher" ability may help out here. Base chance for Galen is 14%, so unlikely but worth a try.

Galen also remarks, "Our little friend kobold is a bit worried that we will be encountering more of these miscreants soon. He is urging that we move along."

Taking a few minutes to peruse the scrolls, you recognize several words from languages you know, and some smatterings of other tongues you've encountered, but not enough to make any sense of it.

After perusing the scrolls, Saeloria remarks, "We need to get these to someone who can decipher them. Let's collect everything we can and then head out. Like our kobold companion, I don't want to be caught here when our hosts return either."

Selene gives the room a cursory inspection before saying

"Yes, let's".

Whenever the rest of the party shows up downstairs, Hamish hefts his spear and takes up a position at the front of the party.

As you gather in the main room and prepare to leave, you note two additional bodies: The kobold, carrying a small sack and the trusty whacking stick he was given, and the Chef, hurriedly shoving a something vaguely loaf-shaped into a large backpack covered in cooking implements. The two look at each other, then at the party. The chef speaks:

"Okay, where are we going?"

"Where's Bill?" asks Selene, referring to the old man the party met earlier. "Someone mentioned the bandit leader headed in the direction of the crossroads. What's the nearest town not in that direction?"
