"Necromancer" is the same sort of generic that "Magic-User" or "Illusionist" is. This recommends it, even if it is overused. I would not be averse to the descriptive text including a number of synonyms for the class name.

Just a quick note. Here are the two links for the template so far. The Anthology template is for adventures. The font zip file is all of the fonts being used:

Sling font (like Soutane)
Quicksand font (like TW New Century Gothic)
Liberation Sans (this one is only for the hit point boxes)

http://sycarion.com/downloads/BFRPGFonts.zip

The anthology will be updated later today to reflect the fonts listed above, so don't download the anthology until late this afternoon, around 2 pm CDT.

sycarion: Dunno what OS you are using; on Ubuntu Jaunty, OpenOffice.org doesn't work with OpenType fonts. Can you get TTF versions, or do I need to convert them myself?

A version of Slackware called Absolute at home, Windows XP at work. Works fine in both places. I'm using Open Office 3.1 on both machines. wasn't aware of the PDF imbed issues. I do not use OO's pdf export functionality, but a pdf printer.

At this point, I guess convert them with fontforge, though it messes up the hinting. Sorry about that, I should have paid more attention.

Fonttools can do it, and seems simpler; either way, you lose the OpenType hinting. Since I work in Linux 100% of the time, I would prefer another choice of font...

I used to be 100% linux at work, then we installed Altiris - it only works with IE7. Not 6 or 8, IE7. UGH!

One other thing that may help to keep the font while I'm looking for something suitable is setting up a PDF Printer. I do that because a lot of stuff I do doesn't have a print to pdf function. On my slack box I used cups-pdf.

Here's instructions for Ubuntu - they're old, but they should still work.

It uses a different rendering engine than OO, so it works with OTF for me. Just an idea.

For a TTF font that is close to Quicksand, here's Print Clearly and Lane-Narrow:

I just want to say that you guys are awesome. I wish that I had 1/10th the knowledge you guys are throwing about.

I also wanted to comment on the discussion of evangelizing/advertising BFRPG. One of the problems is that no one is DMing an online BFRPG that I can find. I know that I could start my own, but I am not sure my limited DMing skills would be very good for promoting the game. Recruiting should be done on more forums than just DF since its already well known there.

I occasionally see requests for players at KnK.

A forum covering a lot of different games is

http://tripleoakleaf.myfreeforum.org/

and you may be able to get some players from over there. It certainly has a very eclectic General Discussion forum! But I believe that there's a Looking for Players forum, if not shoot Kersus a PM.

Hope this helps,

Update on Templates

Post by sycarion »

Just a quick note. Here is the update for the template so far. The template is for making modules or adventures. The font zip file is all of the fonts being used. They are all True Type fonts, now. The Quicksand fonts were converted to ttf.

The list of fonts are:
Sling font (like Soutane)
Quicksand Book font (like TW New Century Gothic)
Quicksand Bold font (like TW New Century Gothic)

http://sycarion.com/downloads/newtemplate.ott
http://sycarion.com/downloads/BFRPGFonts.zip

The template uses only these fonts.

It also features quick ways to add elements to a module.

Pressing r + F3 give you the basic text for a room within a dungeon.
Pressing m + F3 gives you the short form of monster stats for an encounter. It feautres proper formatting for 1 HD creatures, Creatures with up to 20 hit points, and Creatures with more than 20 hit points.
Pressing s + F3 gives you a template for special abilities or spells a creature may have.

For example, if you have a spellcasting dragon, m +F3 gives you the stats and hit points, s + F3 gives you a place to fill out the spell book.

Typing 2t + F3 give you a two rowed table set up for rolling an effect or encounter. There is also 3t, 4t, 5t, and 6t for three, four, five, and six rows respectively.

Basically, to create an adventure, all you should have to do is perform a few find and replaces, uses some shortcuts to add room and creatures. Swap out the graphic for the map and then you're basically done.

Let me know what everyone thinks. I plan on adding more shortcuts, any and all suggestions taken.
